This has probably been done before, but haven't seen it in awhile, so...
I used the Great Circle Mapper http://gc.kls2.com/ to determine the distances (actual miles)
Shortest:
CLT-FAY (118 miles) 3/23/76 Piedmont 732 (an intermediate stop, my ultimate destination was ORF)
Next shortest: CMI-ORD (135 miles) 7/1/87 Britt Air (flying as Continetal Connection) F-27
Longest:
LAX-HNL/HNL-LAX 7/27/90 8/4/90 2x UA DC-10
Next longest: JFK-LAX/LAX-JFK numerous times
I would've never imagined HNL was further away from LAX than JFK! Especially considering that NY is 3 time zones away from LA, while Honolulu is only 2. I guess there is a bigger north/south separation between LAX/HNL than LAX/JFK.
