Charles, I do remember. meeting you.

How is it going at MAN, I bet winter is setting in?.

I England was only a 6 hour flight away I would probably come every year, but 20+ hours is a bit long on a plane.

Very nice trip report and pictures Ryan! The SQ A330's are brand new and I agree the older Boeing 777-200ERs need a little bit of an interior refurbishment. Hope, you enjoyed your time in Manchester and the story about finding the car you hired was pretty funny. Can't wait to hear about the return journey.

    Regards,

    Rohan

Dad and I were not planning on going to England this year, but when earlier this year Singapore Airlines has return UK fares for A$1500 (they are usually A$2000+) we thought it would be crazy not to go.

This time we will only stay around the north of England and look at airports within 2 or so hours drive of Manchester.
During this time there will be two daytrips one to Frankfurt and another to Amsterdam.

The check in process was easy with the use of internet check in.
Going through security, customs etc was easy and without hassle.

Some aircraft I saw while waiting

First impressions of the new A330 are good as there are only two seats by the window.
Takeoff was good, there was light turbulence inflight.

Meal choice for lunch were either Indian Butter Chicken or Stewed Lamb in Red Wine Sauce.
Dad and I both had the Butter Chicken.
Later on a snack was served.
The new IFE system is great, easy to navigate and lots of choices.

Approaching Singapore the weather was not too good and the landing was a bouncy one.

We pulled into the new terminal 3 and although it is new and modern, but the time we arrived it felt dead.
Made our way to terminal 2 and found a spot there for a few hours to watch the action. Once it had gone dark we went back to terminal 3 to wait for the next flight.

    Friday 7 August 2009
    SIN-MAN
    Singapore Airlines
    SQ 328
    Boeing 777-212 9V-SVN
    Seat 57A

By the time we got on the plane we were tired.
After a slight delay we got going. Takeoff in the 777 is much louder than the A330 I thought.
First meal was either grilled chicken or fish. I was hoping to get the grilled chicken, but by the time the cart got to me, there was only the fish left. I am not a big fish eater but this did not taste too bad for airline food. Dad was quite happy with the fish too.
Once the trays had been cleared, could I get some sleep?. We both twisted and wriggled in our seats to try and get comfortable, but only managed cat nap sleep. Although we were sat in a block of three seats, thankfully the plane was not completely full so the centre seat was empty, which gave us some space to spread out a bit.

When breakfast come around the choices were either an omelette with sausages or braised noodles with chicken. This time I got the chicken and dad had the omelette (I think, remember I was by this time absolutely knackered and not thinking straight, so I am writing this report going on my sometimes hazy memory).
The IFE was nowhere near as good as the system on the A330. I did not play with it much as I was desperate for sleep.

Landing in Manchester was another rough one. Unlike my last trip about two years ago where were parked a remote stand we got to use an aerobridge this time.
Bit of a wait going through immigration, but there was a few flights in at the same time.
Despite this being our fourth visit to Manchester and dad spending his early years a stone’s throw from the airport, we always get lost trying to find our assigned hire car as in this case the car was in bay 106 but the bays were in no proper order, so it usually takes us longer to get the car than it does to get off the plane and go through immigration etc.

Once sorted we went to the viewing park for a couple of hours until jetlag forced us to head for the hotel early.

Stay tuned for the upcoming German and Dutch adventures and return to good old Australia.
