Half of my trip was completed yesterday...
Arrived at Kingston's Norman Rogers Airport at 1345 for my 1500 AC 7989 flight to Toronto Pearson. Check in no big deal, except I had to return to the truck to put two small pieces of rope I had in my carrying back. Check in staff uniforms needed replacement badly. Don't know if employees pay for them or what, but ripped threadbare uniforms do not make for a favourable first impression.
Aircraft arrived inbound at 1425, a DHC-8 C-GONH fin 813. Eighteen pax deplaned, and only nine of us boarded what is a 37 pax aircraft so loads were not too good. No wonder Jazz loses a lot of money for its parent company.
Bumpy takeoff and climb in seat 8A, then drinks and snacks were served. I opted for a Diet Coke and doctored it accordingly with my own stock. Lots of snacks offered ie help yourself, and whole can of drink was offered as well. Arrival ten minutes late due to inbound traffic and headwinds.
Arrival in YYZ Terminal One, due for demolition soon as the new T1 looms hugely in the background. Took a shuttle bus to Terminal Two to catch AC 318 to PHL, which involved walking almost the entire length of the Terminal to the USA departures area. Bags met me there for the ordeal of pre clearing US Customs and Immigration, I bought a duty free bottle of Smirrnoff Blue first. I am all for security, but I tend to get asked the stupidest of questions like where did I meet my friend I was visiting (should have said in a whorehouse). The one that took the cake was "Did I have a criminal record" like someone is going to answer that one honestly if they re trying to get into the USA> I am sure their computers know that anyways. I went through another security check, and then also got frisked at the gate as well
Aircraft was C-GAPY, a 319 fin 267 seat 18A, load was only 33%. Again more drinks and snacks. Headphones offered free for the news and audio, fittingly Chantal Kreviastick(sp) was singing "Leaving on a Jet Plane" as we took off to the west. Cabin staff was quite friendly, but again needed new uniforms as they were all shiny from repeated pressings. Executive Class appeared to be getting hot canapes with their free drink service. Ordered one of AC's over priced beers-they used to be $2 and now they are $5. One tick off, for $5 you would think they could at least offer a decnt glass of wine instead of the screw cap plonk they do, which is why I had beer and nacho chips, two bags.
Arrival Terminal D on time at PHL, picked up my bags and met my friend for the short drive down I-95 to Wilmington, De.
