  • My Summer Voyage: 20 Flights!

Welcome to my latest trip report. This time, it's describing my latest travels this summer. Overall the summer was amazing not just because of all the flying involved but also due to the fact I saw nearly my entire family from all around the country. I also had the privilege to visit new cities such as Reno and Las Vegas. So, I hope you enjoy the pictures and narrations as you look through my report. Also note I have separated the different trips throughout the summer into sections.

    Trip #1
    Cleveland, Ohio

    Palm Harbor, Florida
    3:00AM
    June 11th, 2010

Again, like I have before for this particular flight, I awoke at 3:00AM. Today, my mom and sister would be accompanying me to the airport. Our schedule included Delta #1972 to Atlanta where we'd split up. My sister would go to Boston and my mom and myself would continue to Cleveland. So, after checking flight loads and showering we started our trek to the airport.

    Tampa International Airport, Florida
    4:45AM
We got in a little late because, believe it or not, we got mixed up with traffic at 4:30AM! Anyways, we did our usual check in and got through security quick. When we got to the gate we saw that there were about 60 standby on the list. Good thing we were the first three!

    Air Lines Flight #1972
Tampa, FL (TPA) - Atlanta, GA (ATL)

    Flight #1972

This flight was your basic 1.5 hour flight. We were fortunate to get first class on this one so we had a little more room. We got your basic snacks. Plus, I got to see the sunrise making for an interesting environment in Atlanta.

After we arrived in Atlanta we had to make our way to the other end of the terminal for my sister's flight to Boston. After waiting a bit she got on fine and was on her way to Boston. Afterwards, my mom and I went to our gate (C46) for our flight to Cleveland. I did a little touring and before I knew it, we were cleared on our final flight of the day.

Flight went by pretty fast but it was cramped. It was full and CRJ's aren't exactly the most spacious aircraft in the world. But, we go to CLE safely and on time so I have nothing to complain about.

We spent a few days in Cleveland. My grandfather had gone through some major surgery a month earlier so we helped out abit around the condo. My uncle from Detroit came down from Detroit for a visit also.

    Trip #2
    Boise, Idaho

    Westlake, Ohio
    4:00AM
    June 15th, 2010

Well, I had an early morning birthday. I was officially 17 and I get to fly. One problem though. I had listed myself on a flight to MSP connecting to SLC then to BOI. But, when I got to the airport they announced the flight was delayed from 6:30AM to 10:30AM, meaning I would miss my connection. Anyways, we got my grandpa up and went to the airport. My mom was with me but she was headed back own to Tampa.

    Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, Ohio
    5:30AM
After arriving at the airport we went to go check in. I checked in for my flight to Minneapolis and my mom for Tampa, but, her connecting flight to Tampa from Detroit had been canceled so she listed herself on the later departure from Detroit. We went to her gate and I watched her flight leave. The, I got to mine right as they were announcing the delay. So, I called and woke my dad up and had him list me to Detroit continuing to Salt Lake City and then Boise.

This was not a good flight. I'm OK with center seats for about an hour but for nearly 4 is painful. Let's just say, I wanted to get off the plane!

After arriving in Salt Lake City I decided to do some spotting. I found a spot in Concourse B that I used. So, that's what I did for a while. My flight to Boise was suppose to be at 3:15PM but was delayed due to the incoming aircraft until 5:05PM! So, I had some time to explore.

The flight was great. I got first class and I got the single seat side. I got two drinks and some snacks. The only problem was the jetway in Boise didn't work so we deplaned by the airstairs.

I spent around two weeks in Boise. We basically just relaxed and went to a few of my cousins basketball games. Our next trip was back to Detroit for Cedar Point.

    Trip #3
    Detroit, Michigan

I left a day earlier than my cousin for Detroit. I left on June 30th. Basically my uncle wanted us there to help out with some painting then we were going to go to Cedar Point for two days. That, we did. Anyways, here it is...

    Boise, Idaho

    June 30th, 2010
I got up around 4:15AM and got myself ready. The flights were rather tight so I wasn't expecting good seats on either. I was doing one connection that day through Salt Lake City. After I was ready we got in the truck and headed to the airport.

Boise Air Terminal/Gowen Field Airport, Idaho
    5:20AM

I got to the airport around 5:20AM and checked in. Both flights had less than 5 seats open so I wasn't to excited. But, I made my way to the gate and waited.

This was another miserable flight with a center seat. I broke down and purchased the wifi so I would have some entertainment. Plus, after we landed the jetway didn't work so we sat there for like 10 minutes. It was really nice with the air off and everyone standing up!

While in Detroit we painted some lawn furniture, trimmed hedges and pulled weeds for about two days. Then, we went to Cedar Point. I had to head back to Boise on the 8th so I could catch my WN flight to Reno on the 10th!

On the 22nd we flew to Atlanta to visit my uncle and aunt. While we were there we went to the Coke factory and toured CNN. Both we pretty interesting. If I can get the pictures edited I will post a link here later. Here's this trip. I only flew two flights to Atlanta (who does nonstop!).

Once again, another great flight. I had myself a first class window seat. There was no food served due to flight time. I will however say that the landing was a little rough!

After I arrived in Atlanta I had to change concourses to meet up with my cousin who was arriving from Indianapolis. I met with him and went to baggage claim where we met up with my uncle. While we were leaving, if you guys remember, that Delta flight to Portland had just made it's emergency landing.

On the 27th we flew back to Detroit where we were suppose to be picked up by our grandparents and taken back to Cleveland. Read below to see what happened. Plus, it involves a 777-200ER.

My grandparents called me about one and said that the earliest they'd be able to get to Detroit would be around 5, which would mean my grandfather would be driving in the dark (he hates that). So, we got a buddy pass for my cousin and hopped on a flight to Toledo. I think it is the shortest in the Delta system right now.

We would end up staying in Cleveland till that Sunday. My uncle from Detroit (again) came down and got us. While we were in Detroit for the last time we visited every exotic car dealership in the city. Took us 7 hours! Then, on the 6th, I flew back home.

I got to the airport around 5:45AM. It wasn't as busy as I had anticipated. I confirmed my final listing of the summer, which instead of a two hour flight I was planned for DTW-ORD-ATL-TPA! So, I got checked in and went through security.

After arriving the first thing I noticed was the temperature in the airport. It was absolutely freezing in Concourse E and F, and I normally like it cold but that was too much! Anyways, the flight to ATL became oversold so they listed me to LGA then down to TPA. So, that's what I did.

        Flight #5938
About 2/3 of this flight was great. On descent we encountered some severe turbulence. Out of my 103 flights in the past 8 years, this is definitely the worst! I always have my seatbelt loose. On one bump we dropped so fast I was actually airborne about 2 inches. Could have been more if my seat belt wasn't fastened. Plus, we had a "Kai Tak" like approach to runway 31. You can see it in the video.

Worst setup for changing planes that I've seen! Anyways, I did it and got to my gate to Tampa just in time.
