  • Trip Report: Moscow - Shanghai on Aeroflot (Airbus A330-300)

    Airline: Aeroflot - Russian Airlines
    Flight: 208
    Aircraft: Airbus A330-343
    Registration: VQ-BNS
    Departure Airport: Moscow-Sheremetyevo (SVO), Russia
Arrival Airport: Shanghai-Pudong International (PVG), China
    Seat: 26G (Economy)

Moscow - Shanghai with brand new A330-300 at the end of December. The plane departed from Terminal F. Never used it before and will try to avoid next time. Very crowdy and inconvenient terminal, barely renovated since post-Soviet times. Extremely expensive duty free shops occupy 2/3 of the whole floor so the waiting area is small with few places to sit.

Red-eye flight SU208. Not very punctual as usual - departed and arrived 20 minutes late. I monitored flight information for a week before the departure - up to half an hour delays seem to be common. We were given brand new A330 named after A. Bakulev. Cabin was clean. In anticipation of the Olympics Sochi-2014 logos and symbols are everywhere - looks like an obsession.
Cabin crew were friendly and efficient. Food was served twice on a 7,5hs flight, good choice, tasty meals.

Personal entertainment system is very good. Blankets and earphones were given to all the passengers.
Seat comfort was quite poor to me. Seats in the Economy class are narrow with surprisingly little legroom. When you recline your seat the bottom part goes forward, it makes the legroom even smaller. Uncomfortable on long-haul flight.

Bags arrived safe, baggage claim at PVG was quick.
All in all, not the best experience ever, but I would fly them again if the price is fair.

What other options did you have for this route, besides SU?

Nice to see a flight review again on JP.net, they are a rarity these days. Great review as well.

Actually, not many options.. The prices went up, because of the holidays. Only SU offered a good deal for the direct flight. TK had a flight with a stop-over in Istanbul for the same price.

If you had to do it again - would you have chosen TK with the stop?
Whatever is necessary, is never unwise.

Yes of course if the schedule is suitable an the price - adequate.
