  • F/A trip report DTW-LAX-DTW

Well I've never done a trip report before but I've seen on "the other site" a F/A that has done trip reports so I'll give it a try this time. If you guys dont like it then I wont do it again.

    Crew report:1800
    Departure 1900
    Gate:C8
    A/C:828NK

ok lets see if I can do this LOL.

I got to work quite early, about an hour early. checked in, checked the loads there and back, not completly full, which is unual for us. about 75% going out to LAX, about 80% coming back.

The rest of the crew shows up and we pick our positions on the aircraft. I was the most junior so I knew I would be working AFT galley. that position does just about everything on the aircraft. They have to do pre-departure bev service in Spirit Plus and about everything else LOL. To my surprise I was working in the back and not that position, I was Tailcone F/A. Pretty easy position. board the aircraft do all safety checks, I'm starving, havenet eaten all day because I slept, its a red-eye turn so tried to sleep all day, as much as I could. This is the first time I've worked the aircraft with the new configuration(extra row of spirit plus, 3 F/As as opposed to 4). So I'm in the back most of the boarding process by myself, as the other F/A in the back is doing pre-departure. Normal boarding process, chatting with the pax in the back as they board, as I do the boarding announcements(now the only announcements I do, Lead does all others-thats new to us) Pax in 27AC(right infront of the AFT galley) ask about other seats because theres dont recline, I told them I'd check. After everyone was onboard I checked, no 2 seats available. I informed them and oppogized for there inconveniece(always try to be especially nice to pax like that, during the flight).

We push back and do the demo. Which is new to me. I do it at the over wing exits, but now(since theres only 3 of us) I have to go to the pax behind the AFT galley(3 row) and indivdually brief them....I think I did pretty good for my first time.

We took off and I sold the snack pac, not many pax wanted them, it seems either alot want them or not many, but on a long flight they usually want them later on. we did the standard beverage service giving the can to all pax. the other 2 F/As told me to slow down then said I was working too fast LOL I was working like I normally do. The rest of the flight was pretty boring, answering the occasional call bell and getting the pax whatever they wanted. Toward the end of the flight a pax ask for a coke(right after about 10 people asked me for water, ya know they all wake up and want something to drink) So right before Initial decent from the cockpit the pax asked me for a coke(we serve pepsi but whatever) I went to the FWD galley to get it and the lead says "no JUST WATER" I didnt want to but I gave him water. If someone asked me before "initial" I get them what they want, I'm sorry, I'm not a jerk F/A. We land early in LAX.

    Return flight
Flight 709 DTW-LAX-continueing on to LGA
    departure 2220

A Little bit fuller flight but not completly. One pax says she's not feeling well and wanted to sit alone and by herslef incase she got sick. So we put her in 32AC, last row A/C left and right in front of the lavs. Same deal with the demo and having to indivdually brief pax behind the AFT galley except this time the lead kept rambling on and on and on, on the PA while I was trying to brief them. The pax were all laughing cuz everytime I went to brief them he would get on the PA again, kind of annoying.

Very uneventfull flight, everyone pretty much slept, got the occasional call bell, but its a red-eye they all pretty much slept. Again at about initial a pax asked for a tomato juice so I went up front to get it and the other 2 F/As were laughing at me, whatever. And making jokes about me being "F/A of the year" and then there like "OMG your giving him ice too" I'm sorry I'm not one of those F/As thats "once service is over its over and all your getting is water" I'm about customer satisfactin and getting them what they want, within reason of course.

Before we left I saw on the weather channel that DTW has a dense fog advisory for the morning, so I had my doubts about getting into DTW. the Capt. said before we left LAX that vis. was about 2 1/2 miles but was forcasted to go down to about 1/2 mile for our arrival then later to 1/4 mile, which is below our landing mins. well we landing no problem about 40 minutes early. to me looked like about 3 miles vis.....deplaned pax, crossed seatbelts, folded blankets, etc and went home. All in all a pretty good nite at work. It was my first time flying this whole month and I realized how much I really love this job.

Dont know how this turned out but let me know, I know I rambled on a lot but its my first attempt at a trip report

JJ, Do you have another job when you are not flying. Once a month would not pay too many billls.......

No I dont have another job. we have a 72 hour gaurantee, I count mostly on Per Diem, which sucks when your not flying. I'm trying to pick up on my days off, which isnt working at this time. hopefully this will be the only month this is like this

        Re:

Gr8 flight report! Man, it was pretty interesting to read how a flight goes from the standpoint of a F/A.

What A/C is this? An MD-80, Right?

Great Trip Report! File as many as you like--the more the merrier. Your detail was excellent.
