Since some of you wanted another.
TRI-HSV. NA-265-40A
Filed direct HSV, FL310.
Departed TRI at around 1400 local. Weather was crappy, low ceilings, and cold, so anti-ice was used for takeoff. Since we are pulling more bleed air out of the engines, thrust was restricted to keep from overtemping the engines. After a 3500 ft ground roll, we were airborne, and in the soup within 30 seconds after takeoff. No ice in the clouds today, so anti-ice was selected off soon after t/o.
Cruise flight was uneventful, with the TCAS full of aircraft on the Rome arrival into ATL. Final altitude turned out to be FL260, pretty low for us.
Arrival into HSV, about 40 min after takeoff was fun! 800 overcast, light rain, 3 miles viz.
Flew the ILS to 18L at Huntsville, following a KC-135R from BHM doing practice approaches. Encountered a little shear the last 1000 feet of the approach, so my beautufully stablized approach became a little less stable.
We broke out at about 1100, and landed with a slight crosswind from the left. Very nice greasejob of a landing, but that's where the fun begins in a Sabre with a crosswind. We have a very narrow landing gear, so you have to stay on top of the airplane until its slowed to taxi speed.
Reverse thrust was selected at main wheel contact, and I spooled the engines to 85% in reverse when the nose touched, bringing us to a quick, but noisy stop. Stow the reversers at 60 kts, and use the brakes until selecting the nosewheel steering, and exiting the runway.
Very nice flight. Looks like that will be the end of the flying until sometime next week.
BTW: I'm trying to get a camera that will take some decent pics so I can show you guys the airplane, and some pics in flight.
