  • AOC-STN-AOC on Ryanair 737-300

Whatever for bad things I heard about Ryanair I always thought it won?t be a problem to fly with them. So I did and booked a flight from AOC to STN for me and a friend. The fare of 86,- Euro (2 Pax return) was a special offer of Ryanair where customers hadn?t to pay for taxes and fees. So we started our journey to Altenburg by car. Ryanair titles the airport as Altenburg-Leipzig, even Leipzig is lots of km?s away. But we all know that Ryanair ?changes? the cities on the maps all over Europe. After having found the few traffic signs to Altenburg Airport we reached the airport after only one hour searching. If you?re thinking over that AOC is in the ?nothing? and there are few signs which were leading the way, one hour is a very good time. After having seen the terminal we started to laugh because it looked like a supermarket in the eastern part of Germany in the early 90?s. But the service there wasn?t very bad. A little bit slow but for such an airport can handling one flight a day be a very big problem...
The flight from STN arrived 30 minutes ahead of schedule so the boarding was proceeded on time. Whilst walking to the plane I was told by a Ryanair F/A not to take photos. The plane was G-BZZJ, an ex Buzz 737-300 in basic colours without titles. After I sat down on 22E I saw how Ryanair could offer such low-fares. The interior looked horrible. The seats and cabin walls were in bad condition, there were only a few safeties and they were unreadable because of a bubblegum inside. Anyway, now they have 4 safeties less. Another thing that disturbed me and which I noticed during the security show, there were no life vests under my seat and the two seats beside me. We took off on time from the very bumpy runway at Altenburg and flew the entire flight over thick clouds. I even wondered why I was asked to give the in-flight magazine back to the F/A, and why the 3 F/A?s (why 3 for such little service?) cleaned up the aircraft whilst being on approach to STN. Could be due to their low fares? We landed smoothly without delay and were told to leave the aircraft quickly because they had only 25 minutes to the next departure.
The airport I liked much, it?s only a bit complicated to get to London or back to the airport especially when your flight goes at 9?o clock in the morning, and you have to leave London before sunrise. That was the time our flight was scheduled to take off on Sunday. After having checked in (very unfriendly Ryanair stuff) as number 7 (at Altenburg I was number 1), we breakfasted?shall I say something about British breakfast?!?!?!

At the boarding time we were at our gate where we had to wait a little bit till we could enter the aircraft. It was the ex Buzz 737-300 G-BZZE, which was parked next to G-BZZF (I won?t have to tell that it is an ex Buzz 737-300 too!?!?). This time I was seated on 17A and was watching the Ryanair fleet, consisting of a colourful mixture with taped up tails and over-painted titles of Continental, Excel and Buzz aircraft, while I noticed that around 5 Ryanair employees were standing in front of the cabin and were talking to the crew. After another 15 minutes the captain walked over to G-BZZF and opened the door. Five minutes later we were told, by the F/A, in very bad English, that the aircraft shows a no go due to a failure in a hydraulic pump. But, she announced very friendly, we could be very happy to move in the aircraft parked next to us ? G-BZZF. So we walked over to the aircraft and I was told two times not to take photos. I even could see how our baggage and the fuel truck arrived. After I think around 15 minutes we were pushed and rolled to the runway. Isn?t it a bit confusing that they only needed 20 minutes from opening a parked aircraft to push back? I can tell you that I was surprised.
The F/A?s weren?t very friendly and spent the whole flight in the galley after they announced that there won?t be any catering on that flight. This was told without a sorry or an explanation! The flight itself was again very smoothly. I missed some great photo opportunities because I switched off my camera, few FR 737 and a KL 737 had been very near to our aircraft. The other planes were to far away and the pics turned out very bad. Another thing I noticed, there were no air sickness bags! Why? I mean, if someone needs one the time till the F/A could have brought one could be too short. With a delay of only 7 minutes we landed safely, without air sickness bags, safeties and life vests.

This was my first experience with Ryanair, I saw 3 aircrafts from inside and was shocked about the condition of their planes and the rude stuff, but never felt unsecure. When flying with Germanwings I never felt like flying low-cost, but I think I?ll fly Ryanair again ? their fares are unbeatable!!!

    Ich gratuliere!

Congrats, very nice trip report about such a surprising airline. What a pitty they don't fly to Schiphol but to Maastrich and Eindhoven in Holland. I can't wait for your next flight journey!

    Cheers

No, the planes didn't have the breast enlargement because they still had the Buzz colors.
