  • Delta and Delta Connect PHL-CVG-CHA 12/19/03

Here it was 5:30 in the morning and I was sitting in terminal E of Philadelphia international Airport again. This time I was on the way home for Christmas. I was on Delta Flight 1881 to Cincinnati International Airport, flying the soon to be retired 737-200. As I arrived about 2 and a half hours early I wondered around the small terminal E and to my delight I noticed a Northwest DC-9 in new colors. This was the first time that I had seen the new colors in person and I must say that they fit the DC-9 very well. Then suddenly to my surprise I noticed a Northwest 747-200 pull into a gate across the terminal from me. This was a real treat. I have always flown on Delta where ever I went so I have never had the thrill of flying a 74. This particular aircraft was carrying the Philadelphia Eagles back from a win in Miami.
Anyways As we took off from Philly I noticed an unusual amount of aircraft. Even though it is considered an international airport, over all Philly International is highly under utilized. I love the 737-200 series. I always think of it as a minnie me to the 707 with it’s long jet engines, and the whine that is made when the thrust reversers are put into action. For the most part the first flight of my day was uneventful. The crew was very nice. This was one of the few flights that I have been on where the crew did not wake me up to ask me if I wanted anything to drink. I really appreciated this gesture because I had only slept 4 hours in the last 4 nights.
As we pulled into our gate in Cincinnati Airport I noticed that I had 20 minutes to get from terminal B to the Comair Terminal. Luckily I made it just as they made the last call. As I entered the Aircraft I noticed that it was one of the newer CRJ-200s that Comair had taken on. As I passed out I noticed that there were only 10 people on the plane. I love these flights as I can have the whole row to myself. Anyways another seemingly un eventful flight home through the usual territory.
