  • C-17 Globemaster II's for Canada?

Saw in Greg Weston's column in this morning's Toronto Sun that a deal is about to be struck to purchase 4 G II's for the CF. He apparently was not in agreement, arguing Herc replacements are paramount, but that the next airframe off the line will be a Canadian bird (I find this a little hard to believe)
Long overdue, but perhaps other aircraft replacement are more important??

I was talking to a C-17 pilot a couple of weeks ago in Quebec, and he said that Boeing was offering the C-17's to Canada at the same price as the usaf gets them at. He said they have been interested for many years now and still no deal.

Airbus is promoting the A400 as a replacement, however it has yet to fly and there are questions as to when the first one will be delivered.

Well have we ever seen this take off from the drawing board, guys ? I think not.. well atleast I havent.

Its been a while now since Airbus talked about A400 the last time. But we'll see how all this stuff ends. Good luck to Airbus Industrie !

How so? Comparing a plane that has proven itself in the field of combat against one that hasn't made it off the drawing board doesn't make sense. Especially considering Airbus' recent track record of late...

A400M's engine selected and now on the test cell. In charge of the military tier, CASA started assembly of the development aircraft.
Overwise, the C17 looks good to fill a capacity void since Canada is more than ever comitted to world scale missions.

The Herc replacement will likely be C130 Js as the oldest of the Hs and all the E's need to be scrapped now. We have a couple of airframes less than 20 years old but the Es date from 1964.
