  • F-14 retires today

Well folks, this is it. This morning, the F-14 will make its last flight cerimony at NAS Oceana. It will be broadcast live at 10 AM EST online from http://www.wvec.com/news/finalflight.html. There is now less than an hour left with the tomcat in service with the US Navy.

    So Long Baby!

33 years of sterling service deserve tribute.
The Tomcat was probably not an easy one
-to keep up, salute to the outstanding maintenance and system engineers in charge of her.
-approach and fly, hats down for the pilots and radarist who contributed to make her an outstanding aircraft.

      It's a shame, I'll miss that beast ...
It's inevitable, though, that some rich b@stard will buy one in surplus, and have it flying again, the tomcat is too great a bird to sit and rot in the desert .

^Would love to give you right on the last point. The fact that some rich B...ds could buy one in surplus and fly her again annoyes much more as it would be more for grooving around than really appreciating the bird. Whoever will be able to fly one, recruiting the navigator will probably make for an interesting challenge

Apparently the one that took off was different from the one that taxiied away because the one that was supposed to leave in the ceremony was broken
