Today I saw Omni 838 take off headed for Frankfurt. I was wondering, is this a troop charter for the military? There was a U.S.A.F 707 (wasn't a KC-135 or AWACS) sitting next to it too, and a fair amount of air force Jayhawks over on the GA ramp. It seems like a lot of military charters stop through Frankfurt.

I'm 99% sure that it was a military charter. Omni, World, ATA, and North American all do military charters and pretty much all flights going to the middle east stop in FRA.
I can remember catching a few World flights (DC-10s and MD-11s) from FRA-ATL and vice-versa back in the late '90s...the military had a contract with world allowing members of the US military and their families to fly for free on World (and ATA and sometimes Omni) flights across the Atlantic. We took advantage of this service on a few occasions, and the service was excellent. I would do it again in a heartbeat...Fly Raleigh-Durham International, with direct flights on Air Canada, AirTran, American Airlines, American Eagle, America West, Continental Airlines, Continental Express, Delta Airlines, Delta Connection, jetBlue, Northwest Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United Express and US Airways to:
ATL, AUS, BWI, BOS, CHS, CLT, MDW, ORD, CVG, CLE, DFW, DTW, FLL, BDL, HOU, IND, LAS, LAX, LGW, MEM, MIA, MSP, BNA, EWR, MSY, JFK, LGA, ORF, MCO, PHL, PHX, PIT, STL, SLC, TPA, YYZ, DCA and IAD. -
Yeah it seems like the most reasonable answer. Ft Knox isn't far from SDF too, so they may have been troops stationed there.

There is an Omni Air DC-10-30 comes to MME/EGNV every Thursday and Friday on a military charter, originally they sent N720AX, but the majority are flown by N630AX.
