    Spain bolsters water bomber fleet

    The Spanish government has placed a firm order for two Bombardier 415s, to take its fleet of the amphibious firefighting aircraft to 22. Delivery will begin this year.

    Spain currently operates one Bombardier 415, 14 CL-215T and five CL-215 aircraft.

    Since the first Bombardier 415 amphibious aircraft was delivered in 1994, 66 have been delivered to firefighting agencies in Canada, Croatia, France, Greece, Italy and Spain. In addition, 67 CL-215 amphibious piston aircraft remain in service fighting fires.

    The Bombardier 415 firefighter has a maximum speed of 195kt (360km/h). In an average mission of six nautical miles 11km (6nm) distance from water to fire, it can complete nine drops within an hour and deliver 55,233 litres (14,573 USgal) of fire suppressant.
