Norway has rejected an offer to acquire Saab's Gripen NG combat aircraft, with its government instead recommending that the nation maintain its commitment to purchase Lockheed Martin's F-35 Joint Strike Fighter as a replacement for its Lockheed F-16 fleet.

I dont think its a feud, more like Norways airforce want an US aircraft to replace the F-16.
The RM-12 some SAAB Gripen uses have 143k troublefree hours though.

No particularly a US aircraft - just the best - and the F-35 pretty much fits that category (the F-22 not being available). Interoperability with other NATO allies would also have played a part in the decision.
