  • Libyan Pilots Crash Aircraft, Refuse to Bomb Benghazi

A Libyan military aircraft has crashed near Benghazi after the crew refused to follow the orders and bomb the city. CNN reported Wednesday, citing Libya's Quryna newspaper, that the pilot Attia Abdel Salem al Abdali and co-pilot Ali Omar Gaddafi parachuted out of the Russian-made Sukhoi-22 plane and the aircraft crashed in an uninhibited area, 160 km southwest of Benghazi.

Quryna is believed to be Libya's most reliable newspaper. Although owned by a media group linked to Gaddafi's son Saif al-Islam, it has begun to report openly on the recent protests against the 42-year rule of leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Future sorties will be dispatched without the parachute and/or ejection mechanism disabled.

It most likely will not. " I will die a martyr" isnt too encouraging. They should just go and kill the dude. Ordering the military to bomb and fire on the civis is just unexceptable.

Pity that early bombing only scared him.

And with limited fuel, so no escape possibility.

I wonder why they did not land at a safe airport - trying to walk in flight gear is a pain (assuming they do not get injured during the ejection).

I think the Air Force would notice if they were flying away from the target.

Khamis the kamikaze. I see the beginnings of a new comic strip.

How is walking in flight gear a pain? Ditch the helmet and harness and if you knew, you had a crusher in your pocket. If your boots are well conditioned so other than sand and waste?
