    Actually, come to think of it, neither the KMT nor the Mainland government would get anything out of assassinating Chen. And if somebody really did want to kill him and Annette Lu, then why not aim for the head? The incident increasingly looks like it was staged. Interestingly enough, the vast majority of people I talked to about this believe the shooting was a last-minute campaign stunt, and quite a few Taiwanese who were interviewed on TV and in the local newspapers believe the "assassination attempt" was planned all along.

    I think that's possible, but I honestly don't believe the DPP would stoop so low as to shoot their own candidates for sympathy votes.

    TAIWAN PRESIDENT SHOOTING



    Taiwan's President Chen Shui-bian and Vice-President Annette Lu have been shot at a rally only hours before the country goes to the polls.

    Both the President and the VP has released from hospital. In a recorded message, President Chen urged people to calm and relief, and everything will be "business as usual" during the voting day.
