At home in Kansas City: Planes on approach from the Southeast US (mainly DL, US, WN, FL, NW)
At school in the burg: Stealth bombers and A-10 warthogs all day every day on approach to Whiteman AFB in Knob Knoster, MO
Planes over my house are damn low... and very loud! My neighborhood is relatively new, and why they built it right in the flightpath of a major airport still strikes me as odd from a real estate point of view.
If you look to the left, you see that. They just finished building our house. Some Air traffic above the house. 100 yards to the right of the back yard. Its 200FT down to the river.
Nothing much over my back yard except houses, the ocean, and Catalina Island. It's awesome when there's a killer sunset on a clear day, it makes Catalina look really nice. As for aviation, not much traffic, however a lot of times I'll see the U.S. Coast Guard Dolphin flying low around the cliffs by the ocean. Also, every once in a while, U.S. Marines from Camp Pendelton come and train on a big vacant lot, ex Marine Land, and climb the cliffs as well as fast rope down SeaHawks. Not to mention the choppers flying low and loud at 12-3 am in the morning and the blanks they're firing for practice. Can't see it from my house, but if you go down my street a little ways you can see everything.
Oh yeah...I love the sunsets over the marsh here. There's a section of the river that's man-made that you can see from my deck called Eliott's Cut. About once or twice a year, the sun sets right in the center of it. The reflections on the water are awesome!
There are marshes everywhere in South Jersey (15-20% of NJ is marshland), although not in my backyard. All of the coast cities (Atlantic City, Ventor, Ocean City, Wildwood, etc.), which are actually on islands (I live on the mainland) require a long drive (5-15 minutes) on highways through smelly and bare marshland. Approaching Atlantic City by car at night is amazing, driving down the Black Horse Pike or the Atlantic City Expressway; it's like approaching Las Vegas through the desert, except for that you're approaching Atlantic City through the marshland.
Yeah...SC is famous for it's saltmarshes. My street used to be a garbage dunp/spoil site and is filled in marsh. When my neighbors were building their house, they found an old car while building the foundation!!!
