  • Air to air shots

Out of curiosity, I've been seeing quite an amount of air-to-air shots recently on SC or Photos of the Week, made me wondering how do photographers get such access to be able to take these photos? Do they have special occupations to have permissions for such flights? I know for some airports (LAX for example) allow helis to operate photo flights for photographers, but since a lot of them I see are military aircrafts, airlines in unique locations, GA or even business jets flying over some areas or even active volcanoes, really gets me intrigued.

Aviationphotocrew. It's super expensive though and selective. A lot of other photos are actual people who are in the military who specialize in photo journalism which is why they're able to capture these photos.
