  • Fish & Chips.

So, what fish do you think goes along well with this?

My personal would be Cod or king fish.

    How about you?

ohh, tough question. IMHO, you can't go by flake. For fish and chips, you don't want a quality subtle fish, You want a meaty and hearty flesh. Covered in a nice beer batter...argh...maybe I'll get some fish and chips for tea tonight.

once i had a fish from the F&C shop, the meat off the fish is spose to be white but this fish had lots of slimy brown bits in it as if the meat had gone off or something, it tasted real fishy. So i just get hotdogs now.

        Hi Steve181,

Ahh, come to Australia and we'll show you how it's supposed to be done. haha.

Unfortunately, like anywhere in the world, the freshness of the produce largely comes down to the retailer. If they have unreliable turnovers, there's a greater probability that their stock aren't going to be the freshest. (note: vague generalisation on my behalf).

It depends on what Fish and Chip shop you go to.

If your on the West Coast of the South Island, NZ, Anything is good.

            Just one question though.

I have wondered, how do they prepare fish and chips. I mean, do they fried fish and normal french fries mixed together? or do the cook the french fries and the fish at the same time in the same pot?

              Hi aic1985,

Well, for the most part, they utilise the same cooking area for both the fish and the chips (incidentally, they don't use french fries, they use chips - eg: KFC chips over McDonald fries). Depending on how good your fish and chippery is, they may cook the chips in multiple vats...so as to get it crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside. The next time you get fish and chips, you have to try the fried mars bar!!
