Even though there is an Italian flag, I think it might be India.

Should it would be in India, I think there
-would not be the Generali Insurance stone built logo
-would be air conditionners dotting the buildings
-would be evidence of humidity covering parts of the building, since India major banking and insurance center Mumbai (Bombay) is located amidst a humid zone.
              list goes on

I guess you're right, Alain, but I've been to Italy and for some reason it doesn't look like Italy to me. Maybe I'm just tired.

                  Matt,
About India and in my list, I forgot the sarongs some of the ladies would wear.
you got the reason why I am not 101 % accurate in my guess
However, I remember Italy to feature urban area in Art-déco architectural style dating back to Mussolini and which are pretty usual.
As to Florence for instance, the only landmark I see is the railways station.
But in Milan and unlike Florence, and here is my answer, lots of buildings surround the monumental ralways station. I did not make a throughout walk across the area, but a little bird keeps telling with are in Milan modern 30s part. Of course I may be wrong, nobody is perfect !

Not bad at all, but it's not Italy...

Despite the Italianate style of the buildings, the nation in question has been much more influenced by another European nation. I also have to admit that the pic is quite misleading, but you might notice another flag left of the clock tower.

                      A few more hints:

This is the Parliament building of the country
concerned, located on the same square.

Two evening shots of the beautiful city with a population of 2.1 million
                      (including the surrounding metropolitan area)...

...and a mountain which can be seen from
the city centre on clear days.

OK the flags left of the clock tower are rather twisted at best, folded at worst.
Which other European country could have influenced this one more than Italy. Hahahah off course, probably the UK,
Let's try Cyprus and its capital Larnaca.
