I have 10.3 on my iBook. Never crashed once in the 7 months I've had it. I would, however, take a more powerful PC over my iBook anyday... I'm not your typical Mac user. I don't feel the need to defend a damn operating system, as some do in the forums at Apple.com and others... Makes for good reading when you're bored

Mac OS X or Windows XP?

Being that I use XP at home and OS X at work, I can say that to me XP is better. It might have more security flaws, but with a little help from www.majorgeeks.com and Mozilla Firfox, my comp is as safe as a OS X. Plus, my XP crashes far more less than the OS at work.

Macs are POS's. Half of todays programs you can only use with Windows, and the Mac OS is weak, you can hardly do anything with a mac.

Really.......? Hummmmm, I guess I must have been kidding myself for nearly 20 years as a Mac user. I often find brain dead comments like the one above are made by folks who tend to talk out of their ass and never really sat down and played with the platform. You know the type...the ones who say "I have a freind who....." or "I read somewhere that...." thus they come to a conclusion about a product without ever giving it a shot. I digress however the Mac is weak in one major area, gaming. Everything thing else you can do on a PC, I can do on a Mac.

I used Macs all the time in school. Also I have checked most of the programs I have and 90% of them will not work on a mac. I used a Mac well before I ever used a windows based PC.

There is always 'Virtual PC' that alllows use vitually all Windows based programs on a Mac. I use it and it works great. Still if you do not care for Macs that is your preference, at least you gave the OS a chance, indeed it is not for everyone.

Actually, you can use any software program designed for Windows on a Mac. http://www.apple.com/macosx/applications/virtualpc/

EDIT: Ahh, beat me to it UFO.

I've used Windows since I started computing. Since then, I've thought several times about switching to Mac or Linux. Linux, I finally decided, wasn't for me. I've decided that I'll probably switch to Macintosh at the next purchase of a computer (in 2 years). The features, stability, and security that OS X provides is wonderful. By the time I switch, there will be new versions of programs I have for Windows. I don't do a lot of gaming but I'd probably still keep a Windows computer for FS2xxx when I feel like it and for the Windows programs I may have at that time. I've grown tired of Windows and all the freezes, security problems etc. I'm looking forward to switching.

Thats good to hear 'Check Six' especially seeing that you live in Billy boy's home state . When you get ready to make the switch you should check some of the 'switiching' threads at a variety of Mac forums and see what experiences both positive and negative new Mac users have had as they provide a great insight for the potential switcher.

Since 2002 Mac-Forums is your BEST internet resource for all Apple device questions, repairs, upgrades, purchase advice, macOS/iOS install. Friendly/fast.

and many more Mac related sites that feature 'switcher' forums.

and to properly close a program you have to do "file>quit" or "cloverleaf-q" on the keyboard. That annoys me that there is no simple "X" at the top of the window

and they call it easy to use

But iTunes for Windows is really cool

Well jugding from your avatar and your comments you seem to have a problem with Apple. To each his own. Every OS has it's quirks and the Mac is no different. Still, I rather deal with the Mac's slight annoyances than the daily grind of the PC world, namely what new virus will I have to worry about or whether a perhepial device's will function or if the latest application will work or when the next crash is coming. Having used every OS since 6, I have only had a handful of crashes and no lost files in some 16+ years of using the Mac and I am a photographer/graphic artist so my machines get a workout. Hell, I still have my original IIx somewhere

Again use what whatever makes you happy.

And yes, CableModem, 10.3 does have 'a simple X' at the top of the screen.
