  • Spotting at AMS Question

    Hey all,

On July 21st I have to pick up my dad from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport. He's coming on a KLM flight by noon, so I thought I could do some spotting before meeting him at the terminal.

I have already been to the Panorama Terrace before, next to the family restaurant on the 3rd floor. However, I don't believe it is great for spotting: lots of obstructions and the planes are not very close. Plus the obvious fact that it is located on a 3rd floor, which doesn't help either.

I read at Schiphol.nl that there are two other spotting locations, one near Kaagbaan runway and another near Buitenveldertbaan runway. I haven't been to any of those before. I guess these two may be way better for spotting. What I don't know is whether any is at walking-distance from the main terminal. Directions from the terminal to these spotting locations will be gratefully appreciated too.

As I will be arriving from The Hague by train, I would prefer a location as close as possible to AMS' main terminal, where the NS train station is. I have a bike which I can bring with me, although I would like to avoid it, since I will have to help my dad with his luggage afterwards.

I hope any of you guys can help me.

    Thanks in advance,
    Marcos

Well none is in walking distance. You can walk to the cargo apron's but that is around 4 km's. When you walk out of the terminal you must go to the direction of the towers. Just walk this road complety until you come across a bridge where the planes are taxiing over.
There you can make some shots if they are using the right rnw's. If you walk further you can on your left side walk next to the cargo apron and the landing of rnw 06. Only the light is from the wrong side there....
And they must land on 06. In take of most planes are to high.

i hope you can see it. The crude black line if have drawn to the place mentiond above.

    Good luck,

Thanks very much Erwin! I think I will go to the Panorama Terrace this time, and I will try these locations another time, as I will have to bring my bike.

      Cheers
