  • My first time flying a plane yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hey guys,

For my birthday I received an awsome present from a usairways pilot I know. He was going to give me a flying lesson (my first ever) down in NJ. Just yesterday I finnaly got the oppertunity to take this lesson. It was awsome, we flew in a cessna 172 in princeton NJ. I loved flying so much, and I don't know if they do this in other lessons but because the guy I was flying with was a good friend who knew my skill level at fs2004 I flew the whole flight exept for takeoff and flaring for landing. Hell, the hardest part for me was taxing, I just couldn't get used to driving on gorund using my feet.

That was one of the best days of my life!!!!!!!

Anybody esle wanna talk about their first time at the controls of a plane

    Cool. I remember my first flight...back in 1999 :O

I have to admit...the title of this thread scared the bejesus out of me.

      good for you. that's awesome!
i have to go way back to remember my first time at the controls...early 80s...my dad's 172 when i was about 8. all i remember is maintaining cruise altitude and making a few left/right turns.

congrats. I agree with you I had trouble taxiing the first few times but you get used to it. Are you going to continue with the lessons?

          Congrats KBOS!

I remember my first- 9/22/01. Taxiing was the hardest thing for me too- did S's all the way to the threshold. The 2 lessons after that were more interesting- a lightning storm and an unintentional spin. For only having a few hours, that spin scared the crap out of me!

Best feeling in the world though, isn't it? You should try helicopters sometime.

Never flown a plane before but I can relate to taxiing...I did it in a T-34B trainer and had problems going straight down the taxiway.

btw, anyone know the average cost to get a private pilot license?

yeah lol, flightsim is just a weeeeeeeeee bit different than actual flying! I got my ppl a year ago, and it cost me about $NZ13,000 (excluding ratings), since then it has gotten more expensive, i wouldent say there is a uniform cost of ppl's around the world, germany for instance is apparenlty really expensive, so your best bet is to rock on down to your local, and get some info!

dont let money be a barrier, flyings not just for spoilt rich boys, i worked at a supermarket on a tiny wage, and spent 100% on flying not cd player, not car etc like everyone else was. Also you've really gotta be commited to it, if you drop out half way you'll have nothing to show for it, and people do; 40% of my C.P.L intake have dropped out.

After my first few lessons i remember my arms aching from holding the controls, that was before i learnt about trim, and at the time i really thought that, that was just how it was, so if you get stuck into your training really master the trim straight away!

Taxing is the same as driving a car ...only there are more risks involved..
