  • If we put it in Sydney in September, Which is just over a year now, we could plan it with the Arrival of the first AirNZ 777 arriving in AKL, this gives us an extra airport, which for not that much extra cash will give us more spotting at a different location. The extra Airfare will cost around NZ$190 each way, or about US$120. Just an Idea.

    • NYC...uhhh mabey for the US meeting. And EWR, no thanks. I'd rather not be excessivaly beaten with a lead pipe . And my head still hurts after that blow from Simpleboy(ya ya ya, i admitt it, it was funny matt )

How does an airline thats going bankrupt sign new regional carriers, launch a discount airline, purchase new planes, AND repaint their fleet? I dunno, ask United.

        A. The fares wouldnt be so high for people coming from the west and Europe
        B. NYC has more to offer then planes. Its the greatest city in the world
        C. NYC has TWO good airports VERY close to each other.
        D. NYC has some of the BEST photographers around!!!!
        E. NYC spotting really doesnt require a rental car, all airports are accesible by a train or bus ride
        F. NYC is also close to EWR!
        G. NYC will definately have a huge turnout rate. Definately more then 9 ppl!!

        Think about it people THINK!!!!
i spotted JFK earlier this year, it's not that good! traffic is slow and rather boring, JFK does require a car, you can't shoot from Howard beach allday!

it is a great city, but from Australia in summer time the airfare pushes $3000, so here is the tip, fuggedabatit.

sydney or tokyo would be the 2 logical choices, traffic thats good and lots of it, easy to get around and cheap for accomodation.

I think it's important we go somewhere where there are other things to do! I would like to make the next one a week long or 1.5 week trip. That way, we will have suffecient time to shoot, visit, and do other things that would just be fun to do! Unfortunalty in LAX, we were all together for like 1-2 days which made it hard to decide on what to do.

I agree on Paris and Rio de Janeiro. Especially on the latter, since it is very close to Buenos Aires and I get free hotel at a friend's house (yep...talkin bout you Bê)!

Anchorage is a off the beaten path for most of us, plus the 1st Meet Up was held in the USA, which makes me think no. 2 should be somewhere else.

London is a good possibility, as we have four airports in that area (LHR, LGW, LTN and STD). Also it is quite easy to find affordable tickets to that place.

            Just my two centavos.

            • I still say Sydney, the NYC airports arn't spotter friendly. My buddy got detained by airport police and questioned for sticking a telophoto lense through a chain fence

                • Ok guys so I think it is fair to say we have an organisation committee, and a nicely spread out committee at that! The following people have volunteered to help organise the meet and make things go smoothly on the organisation side of things. Those people are:

                  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jason Nicholls (BAPILOT2B) - Europe Based
Kevin Cadd (kaddyuk) - Europe Based
Montague Smith (Longreach747) - Oceana Based
Greg Dewey (Greg) - North America Based
Jurgen Radier (Spotter) - Europe Based
                  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now the committee has been formed I do reccommend the committee try and keep as close contact as possible when it comes down to any matters about the meet.

Its obvious everyone cannot make the meet wherever the meet turns out to be, but I can assure you, if you want to make it, that little bit of effort on trying to make it will be worth it and you will get there. Just keep in mind this meet may not go ahead until at least next August. So lets get down to business regarding the destination, SYD seems to be a favorite at the moment, but come on guys, get your suggestions in now while you can!

Also keep in mind this isnt ALL going to be a spotting trip, its going to also be a great socialising meet with hopefully many members from all over the globe. The organisation committee will be attempting to organise other things for the evenings etc. No matter where the meet is going to be I have a feeling its going to be awesome already.

                  • For Greg, Montague, can you add me on MSN ([email protected]), I think MSN is the best way for communication (allthough a bit hard with regard to timezones).

I would like to invinte all people who want to to post a reply in this thread about the airport where we could meet, and they feel like that should be looked at. I think I can say that James' proposal for SYD is a very good example of how it could and should be.

                    • Now you have had a met up at LAX, where it was easier for the USA members, why dont we have a meeting in Europe so its easier for people in Europe.
I think that Paris CDG is good but London is also good cos it has 5 airports(LHR,LGW,STN,LTN,LCY) that are a bit of a distance away from each other but its worth visiting them all.

                      • While London would be nice for a meetup, whenever my dad goes there he comes home and bitches about how exponsive everything is. When he goes to McDonalds, its around 4-5 punds for a burger, in NZ and Aus, its around $4-$5 NZ or Aus Money which is about 1/3rd as strong. So while it would eb good for the spotting, everything else would b eto damn expensive for most people.
