I think everybody should have an equil say in the meet, nobody should have 'priority' say on whats going to go down, where the meet is gonna be and who can turn up. Some ppl may have wanted to make the LAX trip but due to either financial or other plans they couldnt make it (Myself for example).

Again I would like to stress a meet in less than 12 months should not be considered as again, finance for the meet could be hard for some members who are students.

As for destinations here are a couple I have come up with again considering airfares for those not fortunate enough to have staff air travel support:

NRT : Ok a personal favorite and as said in previous posts has NO problem when it comes to traffic. Might be hard to get air fares but it isnt impossible. Few other airports also avaliable to reach not far from NRT.

MIA : Mentioned a few times already and a very nice sun spot, has the traffic, and I think will have alot of other places we can visit.

SYD : Great photo spots and WX, possibly alot of traffic us europeans and americans may not have seen.

FRA : If your wanting to catch alot of russian built aircraft this could be your choice of airport. Lots of LH but best of all theres alot of variety, the russians been only part of it.

LHR : Ok so its popular already.....but it has to be one of the best airports worldwide when it comes down to traffic, although those hours with BA 320's and BD 320's may get alittle repetative, but bear in mind LTN, STN, LGW and LCY are all very close.

A few other possabilities to think about: SIN, MAN, ZRH, CDG, JFK, MAD, AMS.

Also along the lines of what to do there maybe an evening meal with everybody, will be great to all socialise and get to know each other, I know for alot of people if its not a close airport your going to be shooting like hell all day with not too much time to talk.

Maybe a presentation evening, the lines of it can be worked out once a destination and time is chosen and these details can be organised and planned alot easier.

Those are a few more of my own thoughts, more to come though!!

Im fine with that, as long as United flys there the airfare is no cost to me

How does an airline thats going bankrupt sign new regional carriers, launch a discount airline, purchase new planes, AND repaint their fleet? I dunno, ask United.

I'm all for Sydney. I spent a few hours there last November and didn;t want to leave. Plus if it's done in the Northern Hemisphere summer, it should hopefully be a little cheaper on the flights, a little less crowded, and the sunny winter weather should be spot on for photography.

Plus the food's good, the people are great and there are plenty of opportunites to jump on DJ or Jetstar and visit some other places (can you guess which country i was born in?) .

Anyway, wherever the final destination is, i'm sure it'll be great.

                James.

                    number 1 sh!thole of australia!!

i still think it has to be a universal decision without anyone having a greater say than somebody else! and that's the way it will be.

so the choices above by kaddyuk, matt, jase and myself are really the only choices, nobody will have a greater say than anyone else, no matter who went to LA.

i think a good start is to eliminate places that will be in summer season at the time we are planning, it's pointless, best time is the cooler months!

a place where other airports are easily accessable, also i am thinkin the new nagoya chubu airport will be worth a visit!

I don't think people are going to the meets just so they can decide where the next one is...

But I don't really care where it ends up being.

SYD would be good, if its in the northern Hemisphere summer it shouldnt be too hot there, plus its Auz, where plenty of people go for a holiday so you can take your family and dump them in town before heading off, the other benifit is that its very close to other major Airports, eg MEL BNE, and a bit further away AKL.

Australia is one of those places you can go to for a Holiday as well, you dont have to spend the whole time spotting, go to the outback, the theme parks, make the hop to NZ for a few days.

My vote for the next meet is somewhere in Aus.

Realistcally, its probably the only spot i can get to outside NZ for a meetup for a few years too.

I really wanted to go to LAX this year but couldn't make it because the cost of accomodations was more than I can afford. If SYD or somewhere in Asia is the next jp meet, I probably won't be able to make it since ticket prices from CLT, is at least $1500 if not more...doesn't exactly fit a student's budget

May I suggest YVR (Vancouver, Canada) as a future consideration (maybe 2006?). The temperature there is pretty mild even during the summer and it isn't humid. There are enough different airlines and aircraft to keep things interesting and there are stuff to do nearby besides spotting. The only problem would be unpredictable rain but I guess you guys from UK are used to it

Sydney seems like an excellent place to go spotting and generally to be, however for a majority of people here it's really far.

Second best among all the others IMO seems to be Paris, even if it isn't during the airshow time.
"The Director also sets the record straight on what would happen if oxygen masks were to drop from the ceiling: The passengers freak out with abandon, instead of continuing to chat amiably, as though lunch were being served, like they do on those in-flight safety videos."

                                Other ideas:
                                LAS
MKE (in conjunction with the Airliners 2005 show)
                                MIA

How is MCO for access? And KMEM? Shooting FedEx heavies all day would be nice.
MEM has about 1 good place for spotting right on the runways, its an excellent spot and its incredibly close, but the only problem there is you've got 2 or 3+ fences to try and get over. Other than that theres a few good places to get pictures once their off the ground, but all in all, its NOT a good idea.
