    • I think SYD

      Pros

      Lots of traffic,
      Good place to spot,
There is a lot more to do than spot,
      Good holiday spot,
Frienldy locals (from what Ive heard and experienced),
Lots of JP photogs already there,
      Different country/area of the world,
Close to other good holiday and spotting places.

      Cons

Can cost a lot to get there for some,
Can get hot in Summer (go in Winter? be less busy too(car traffic)),

Feel free to add to each list.
      Sam Rudge

You dont always get what you want, so deal with it.

I only fly for free when my dad flys with me, so it would have to be around his schedual
Let me tell you about something, its called paying, how most people get a ticket. Why do you have to be with your dad? Why cant you just save up some money and pay yourself.

Im 14, Im going to Japan later this year, have planned two trips to AKL within the next year and a bit, and possibly one to SYD if the meet is there.

Heres the main point, I am paying for all but the Japan trip which my parents are helping pay for because its effectivly for school.

Oh ya why didnt I think about that earlier! I forgot I can come up with $500 with like a weeks notice. Oh wait, NO! I CANT! and how in sam hell would i get around?! I cant drive!

And no way in hell im paying for a cab to take me all over LA. And that means if I DID go, my dad would have to come, so I would fly for free anyway
First, the final plans for the LAX meet was proposed well over a month in advance.

For this meet, we have begun organizing 1 YEAR! in advance.

That's a lot of time to get a job and earn some money on your own.

I work at Tim Horton's and bought myself a 300D + 75-300 for my 16th birthday. Now I'm saving towards this next trip.

I'm sorry, but we are not going to have another meet in the USA just because you can't get a free ticket to SYD.

Get a job. Get a life. And stop whining!

your're missing the whole point! Many of us here are teens, many of those teens can't drive! These plans completely are unfriendly to all the teen spotters on the site!!! In califorina, people born in 1990 and after(including ME) cant drive until age 18!!! And also, how would a 14 y/o get around a strange country?! So stop saying I should get a job, use ur common sence, and see that my dad would have to come with me and I would fly for free anyway! And money isn't a problem, because my brother gets me 60% discounts at a worldwide hotel chain. I think I speak for all of the minor's posting complaints here when I say, we're not whining, we're pointing out u guys totally left us out!

How does an airline thats going bankrupt sign new regional carriers, launch a discount airline, purchase new planes, AND repaint their fleet? I dunno, ask United.

        • Two words: Paper Route.

Got one when I was 13 and I average about $3000 a year. Easy money.

          • uhhh again, its not the money. Its transportation and getting around in a strange country. You guys would have to post how to get there on a bus or whatever and the names of hotels by the airport and all that.

              No...

              1. You buy a plane ticket (or fly for free with your dad)
              2. You book a hotel (with the discount provided by your brother)
              3. You fly to SYD (or whereever this is going to take place)
              4. You meet the other spotters at the airport

And to get to the hotel (preferably an airport hotel), just take a bus.

              • Heres an idea, have one in the US for teens who cant get to another country. Then the people who can go to the other country can go there. That way both can be happy.

Im a teen, (14), I cant drive, yet if I can get the money and go Im gonna go.

These plans completely are unfriendly to all the teen spotters on the site!!!
All? If its in America, I cant go and thats what you want, heres the punch line, you want Teens to go so are you just gonna exclude me? If its in Europe I cant go, If its in Asia I might be able to go, if its in Aus, I am 95% sure I can go. Dont give me the "Its unfair" argument. I live in NZ, Your probably one of those people who doesnt even know where that is.

Im 13:20 hours on a 744 from LAX that includes one stop. Or about $2133.60.

And also, how would a 14 y/o get around a strange country
Im sure if you were responsible you would have no problem.

So stop saying I should get a job, use ur common sence, and see
that my dad would have to come with me and I would fly for free anyway!
So let me get this straight, you want us to make all our plans around your dads work? Yeah right. If your dad has to come with you, it just means your not responsible and they dont trust you.

And money isn't a problem, because my brother gets me 60% discounts at a worldwide hotel chain
                  So PAY FOR A TICKET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hardly, You want something that totally contradicks what everyone else wants and wha tis reasonable. There was a meetup in the US a few days ago, if you dont make it to that quit b!tching when we make the next one in a place a bit more friendly to other people.

You are just one of those Americans that says "Me me me me me" and couldnt care less for other people.

                    • Teens in the US can set a place, teens in foriegn countries can work out a place. It's just an idea.

You will find a few who turned up to the LAX meet cant drive.......so how did they get around.... they all pulled together, rented a car splitting the cost and somebody who can drive....drove!

Enough said, now if your not serious about attending the meet no matter where it is or how many turn up just go organise that little meet you have a post on...... we all know the story would be different if the overall destination of the meet was in the USA.

Simpleboy, thanks for starting the suggestions of destinations, just what I need, this topic now needs to go forward with the ideas and enough of the children who cannot take things seriousley without having a good old whine.

I couldnt make it to LAX due to financial problems because I couldnt make the eaxct day everyone else were leaving, so the day I could have flown out it would have cost £600. Did you see me having a whine???? So if it isnt going to be constructive towards the main meet we dont wanna hear it.

                        • those with known issues with $ need reply no further, we are trying to keep this serious and for people who are legitimate attendees.

i've just raised an idea in the crew forum, i think if we can get a consensus with that then advertise what we have agreed on then those who wish to attend may do so.

                          • To help things along:

                            My choice: Sydney

                            PROs:

                            *Spotter/photog friendly
                            *Superb spotting locations
                            *Variety of traffic
                            *It's not in the USA
*Sh!t loads to do if you want a break from spotting
*It doesn't have to be expensive if you don't want it to be. There are plenty of cheap motels near the airport.
*Northern hemisphere summer = southern winter = less heat haze and more interesting lighting for photography. LA was a killer for heat haze last week.
                            *Good food (very important)
*Good drink (very important for us 18+)
*Ability to jump on a lo-co and visit other airports
*Travelling from Europe you get to stop at an Asian Hub (SIN or HKG for eg) to get that extra variety in.
*Search for airfares and there are some bargains to be had - it's not as expensive as you think.
*Good weather conditions most of the year round.
*Wherelse am i guaranteed to see Wunula Dreaming?

                            Cons:

*Not everyone can get there (but isn't that the case for any location on the planet)
*Can be expensive if not planned carefully.
*Jetlag is a killer for the unweary.
*You wont want to go home, a week isn't long enough.
*Long travel times to get there.

Can't think of many other disadvantages.

Yes, Sydney is a long way to go, but IMO if you are serious about aviation as a hobby, then it exists on a worldwide scale (not just in the USA), and you should be prepared to travel to experience this. Howelse are you going to see Russian built airliners for example? At the moment for some this is not possible, but where there is a will there is a way. If you seriously want to come then you will probably be able to find a way.

If you are too young now then you have a whole lifetime ahead in which you can go experience the world, it doesn't have to be next year. Yes, there is a world outside of the USA.
For some of us who are getting a little older, we have to grab any opportunities we can to participate in our hobby - time gets more and more precious as you get older. We don't have endless summer vacations.
Anyway, hope you 14 year olds have asked mummy and daddy if they will let you travel across to the otherside of America, let alone the rest of the world. Wouldn't it be a bummer if they didn't let you do that .

I look forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting.
