  • now aint that ironic

Go to this link. Note the Airline and Airport. Now isn't that one ironic!

Photo taken at New York - John F. Kennedy International (Idlewild) (JFK / KJFK) in New York, USA on July 30, 1981.

I believe it was scheduled service back then... even more often too London.

Times change... you can fly from Taiwan to Mainland China now... Cathay Pacific to mainland China too... who would have thought?

It's just the irony of it. How things were so different between Iraq and the US back then. Heck, they supported the guy!

Soon I'm sure we'll see Iraqi them back in Heathrow.

How is that ironic. We see Aeroflot planes in the U.S. now. We'll probably see Iraqi airways planes in the near future.

I wonder if they'll ever see this again, though.............

Iraqi Airways flew into the U.S almost up to the invasion of Kuwait. I remember dropping my cousin off at T4 and seeing the Iraqi Airways sign right after the invasion.

You could probably say that about every other country as well.

How true! They sell them weapons, so that 12 years later they can request the destruction of these weapons, then invade, destroy everything, and then award their own construction companies with all the rebuilding work.

One only wonders why the world economy is so poor, after the USA seem to have found the perfect way of earing money from every situation?

                    Regards,
                    Peter

Iraqi airways had a nice livery. it is still kind of modern today.
It is also ironic in some way that the jet has been built in America.

Based on your logic, Peter, it’s OK for France, Russia and others to sell weapons to murderous dictators even if it gains them greater access for their own companies (ahem…TFE), but only when the US does this it is bad. Do I sense a bit of hypocrisy here?

Need I remind you all where Iraq got its weapons from?

Notice who is first on the list? And who’s second? And where does the US rank?

No, the arguement people keep using is that the "US armed Iraq". Well, maybe we did, but there are other countries that did more than their fair share to do the deed! Russia, France and China come to mind!

Actually, the series of flights flown by the Taiwanese carriers to China were one-off charter flights that hopefully pave the way for future scheduled direct flights. However at the moment, you cannot fly direct between the two countries.

Also Cathay has received permission from Hong Kong authorites to fly to China. China has not yet permitted anything and are unlikely to do so soon. Slots will also be difficult to get, as I am sure the CAAC is going to make it as difficult as possible for Cathay to start China flights.
