    Sounds good, Excalibur. Thanks for the suggestiion, FlyCHS, but after recent experiences with brand-name computers, I think they're pretty much outta the question

          If you are going AMD, you might want to consider getting a motherboard that supports AMD Anthlon 64. That way, when you upgrade, you have more headroom.

            that isn't possible unfortunatly, athlon 64's use a different pin structure than the current athlon xp line.

            The athlon 64 is a socket 754, athlon 64fx is a socket 940, and the opteron is a socket 940 as well. The processor I suggested is a socket A (aka Socket 462)

            man do I wish that were possible thou....

              Yea, I know that...what I mean is he should choose a board that supports the 64 processor for his first board, either 754 or 940.
