  • how long to spend at niagara falls?

i am headed over to Toronto in a few weeks, i'm going to be using a hire car and drive over th Niagara falls (canada side), how long is it best to stay there, overnight or just a daytrip??

    thanks

I went there as a day trip while I lived in Toronto. However, most people suggest staying for the night because of the night show with lights and all that jazz. Supposed to be really cool.

I would suggest staying the night, especially if you are able to share the experience with the appropriate "special" person.

Definitely stay the night. If you go there just for a day, you will not only miss out on the night shows, you will find yourself cramped for time trying to get everything there is to do done.
"The Director also sets the record straight on what would happen if oxygen masks were to drop from the ceiling: The passengers freak out with abandon, instead of continuing to chat amiably, as though lunch were being served, like they do on those in-flight safety videos."

All depends on how late you wanna stay out, and how much you want to see. it is about 90 minutes drive from Niagara to Downtown T.O. Starting in a few weeks (nov 16) there will be the annual festival of lights, so you will want to stay till after dark, What else are you planning? Just look at the falls and go, or will you be enjoying the casinos, Maid of the mist boats will be parked for the winter after this Sunday so that's out, but you can go in the tunnels that take you behind the falls. Lots of cheesy tourist attractions to see, do you like wax museums? Lots of other things to do in the region if you stay the night, winery tours? It is up to you, you can stay 1 day and see enough, or stay 2 or 3 and still find things to do.

When I saw it I was like Clark Griswald looking at the Grand Canyon. It's just a waterfall.

i'm not asking for an opinion on what you thought, i'm wanting to know how long to spend.

i'll probably drive down during the day and head back late in the eve, i dont like casino's to much but i'll have a look around.

i'll fit alot in during the day.

Overnight is fun....the laser show..at night is good!....but the day time it gets pretty boring, unless if you go on Maid of the mist that takes you really close to the falls. And there are a lot of places to chill and eat also.

                        thanks guys
maid of the mist is not ops in winter so that's a no go, i think by 5 or 6pm it'll be dark too, so i can see the night show then drive back to TO.

cos the airline and the eqpt is not significant.

                            but i'm flying per-syd QF A332, syd-lax QF 744, lax-yyz AA 738.

                            rtn

                            yyz-lax AA 738, lax-mel QF 744ER, mel-adl QF 738, adl-per QF 738.

nothing unusual about my travel pattern, all OW as usual.

A day-trip should be all you need. I've never really found much to do there, Cave of the Winds and the Maid of the Mist were the only thing I found close to exciting there. It's a breath-taking sight for the first couple minutes, but just gets boring to me quickly.
