My daughters can identify most acft types (age 10 and 14). My wife only cares if she is getting on.

"Take your kid to work day" is coming up for the Grade 9's so Marguerite (oldest daughter) is coming with me. She doesn't want to go to the hospital with my wife, she would rather see how an airline is run.

Sometimes they think its awesome, and sometimes they know when to shut up when around me. I think I pis 'em off when I bomb them with questions about the flights, It seems Im the only one that cares about how she GOT THERE rather then what she DID there

        33 X $25 (Average price)= $825, not a wonder she gets mad
Why does she care? It's not like you have a joint bank account...?
Because I forget to save money to take her out, so its always chill at my place

Most girls usually will not care. Yea, they'll say "wow, way cool" or "Wow, I've never heard of aviation photography." If I meet a girl, I usually don't bother and tell them that aviation photography is one of my hobbies. They do not care but I like to shoot anything in general then airplanes. I've never told my girl that I was into plane pictures but she knows I'm at the airport and knows that one day, that will be me flying that bird. I've taken her out to the airport once to relax and enjoy the weather while the planes were landing above us. She enjoyed it.

When I was back in high school taking primary flight training, (I started flying at the age of 14) a lot of my female friends were impressed. In fact, a lot wanted me to take them flying or I offered them a flight becuase flying with a good looking female is hell lot better then flying by yourself. Anyway, on the aircraft carrier, I'm always outside taking shots during flight ops even though I work nights and it sucks staying up after nono and getting 5-6 hours of sleep but it's really fun. A lot of girls on my ship were impressed when I showed them how large my lense was.

My lens has always made me feel rather inadequate.

Every girl I've talked loves it that I fly. They're always asking questions about it. My girlfriend loves to go fly with me, so I usually take her once or twice a week. But get your PPL and girls will be impressed. Every now and then I catch my girlfriend with her mouth wide open staring at me while we're flying, or while i'm doing radio communications. It's awesome!

My girlfriend has kind accepted that im into planes and spend a fair amount of time on this site. I guess the thing that makes it "ok" in her mind is im also out allot with her to clubs, bars and restaurants and stuff. Basically what you need to have is a "life". If you've got that but are still into planes your more likely to get accepted. Sad but true im afraid. It made me laugh we were walking into the city yesterday and there was a contrail overhead. I automatically looked up (does anyone else do this with ought thinking on hearing the distant rumble of jet engines? ) and she happened to look up to. Her words were "That looks like a British Airways 747". I almost fell off the dam sidewalk Im sure she’s doing it to make me happy but it would seem she actually doesn’t find the hobby as lame as I thought she would. Which is cool. I'd never put her through the ordeal of spending hours at a cold airport taking photos though. Unless she really, and i mean really wanted to. Its just harsh. I to wouldn't really date a girl who was into aviation for pretty much the same reason. There very likely to be a female nerd (nerdess? )

Seriously...planes are all fun and whatnot...but they're no longer my life. I mean, when I see those retards making home flight simulators with 15 screens and three PC's setup with a yoke and pedals...damn...I cant associate with those people...they need to live a little.

And aviation has lost its magic and prestige imo. Back when Connies and DC-3s ruled the skies, thats when aviation was an art. Now its computerized bullsh*t. I long for that time when the captain of an airliner was like the captain of a ship. He commanded authority, respect and great skill. Because true flying is an art. J-3 cub stick and rudder flying is an art. Grass fields are an art. Hand flying 707s into Cat II conditions was an art...

Autoland and FMCs are not an art.

Thats my rant for today...and thats why I no longer have a passion for this stuff...
I have never really been into warbirds, they bore me. Of course we dont see hand flown airliners these days but I think its much more impressing to see a huge airliner land in front of you - who cares what controls theaircraft if you just want to get it on a photo. if I want to do real flying without computer help I go out and sit in my glider..

for me, I found my balance between spotting and the rest of my life including girls. Might help that I dont live near a large airport and I cant spot the big guys everyday. I really do enjoy both at the moment
                    greetings,
                    Philip
