The Burj Dubai Tower will be 800m tall, once completed in 2008: 160 floors with offices, appartments, hotels, and shops, with a man-made lake surrounding its base
These people have too much money and nothing to do with....
But at 800m.....isn't that a little tall, I wouldn't feel too secure standing atop such a high building.

Anyways, what do you think?
Well the ascending stage structure is a good idea already used in the 30's for the Chrysler and Empire State Buildings. Burj Tower can be seen as a combination of the Empire on steroids combined with technical proesses unknown back in 1930. Personaly, looks to me as more trustworthy than the tower in TPE, which really looks flimsy.
Why don't they just roll out a welcome mat for terrorist bombers?
If people just stop building tall stuff because of fear of the terrorists, will it not send them a signal that their methods of terrorism actually work? Not building tall structures because of the threat of terrorism would just be giving in to them, imo.

Actually, the technology exists for free-standing structures to be well over 300 stories, and probably more.
I know that all the technology for tall structures exists for a long time already, but is such a tall building really practical for use? It's all for pride and show off their wealth (see all the man-made wonders around Dubai) more than a real need.
Let's hope the elevator doesn't break down on the 152nd floor...
