Peeping tom trapped in drain above women's airport toilets

KANSAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT -- A man was arrested Saturday after being
found trapped among drainpipes in a ceiling above a women's toilet here,
police said.

Shuichi Arai, 50, a company employee from Kumatori, Osaka Prefecture, was
arrested for trespassing.

Arai admits to the allegations, saying he climbed into the airport ceiling
to escape somebody who was chasing him.

Police, however, believe that he was trying to climb up above the women's
toilet so he could spy on patrons using the restroom and have pledged to
continue investigating.

Parts of the ceiling in the adjacent men's toilet had been broken and
investigators strongly suspect Arai intended to climb into the ceiling from
the men's side of the toilet and crawl over to spy on the women's side.

Police said that a security guard noticed a man had climbed into the ceiling
above the women's toilets in a parking lot at Kansai International Airport
and alerted the police.

Officers arrived on the scene to discover Arai, who was trapped in the maze
of pipes above the sealing.

Rescue workers came in and freed Arai, only for the police to arrest him
immediately.
