  • Some times you got lucky!

I was borred at home so i decided to go outside shooting some contrails after 8 aircraft I began walking home again until I saw a massive contrail coming right towards me so i waited until it was close enough for a photo I aimed my lens at it and this is wat I saw..

    http://members.lycos.nl/acspot/Delta...l.com/747s.jpg

Pretty cool dont you think? (I didnt noticed the other 747 until I looked though the lens) My guess is that it are two LH 747

(Thanx leon for hosting the pic)

Welcome to JP, and congrats on that nice shot , and yes, judging by the colors, I'd agree that those two ar LH744s.

Why would one have contrails and not the other, was it a large difference in altitude?

I think its a bit of an optical illusion,
the height difference was minimal just 1,000ft or less, but te horizontal distance was bigger then it looks as you can see here

Here you can see the photo when they are almost right above me the 747 without contrails was traveling much faster then the other

        (Sorry for the jpg compression)

          I would have to disagree.
If one of them is producing contrails there is a good chance they are above FL290. At this point ATC vertical seperation becomes at least 2000ft. if I'm not mistaken. Even so vertical seperation is at least 1,000ft. below FL290 with certain exceptions such as RVSMs.

Hmm yes thats true, but check the size of both aircraft the diffrence is very small. But you are right, this was just a tought and its hard the judge the distance from the ground. I think that the flightlevel was some where between 30.000ft and 34.000ft cause these two were quite low if you compare it with other traffic that same day.

            other things seen that day:
            AF B772 1x / or Kuwait 777 a very white one..
            LX A340 1x
            LX A319 1x
            LH A340-300 2x
            LH 747 3x
            BA 772 1x
            BA 744 1x

            - unable to see what Airline

A330-200 with RR engines, Grey with white belly
747-400 white fuselage and engines, for a moment I tought corsair but they dont have 744..

Mike, isnt that seperation between opposing traffic? SO those planes, if above FL290 would have a 4000` gap between them?

              btw.. nice shot Delta12!

AF's 777s aren't white, they are dirt-grey . Seriously, should be AF, as Kuwait's livery includes a blue cheatline.

That's actually a PrivatAir plane, operated for LH.

Sounds like Qatar Airways, likely the one that was in DEN for some time. Looks like the skiing vacation is over for the Emir .

The tail of the 744 does indeed look white on a dark background - very Cathay like.

I don't have my 7110.65(ATC version of the FARs) in front of me but no I'm pretty sure its only 2,000.
