  • German "Aero": Portrait of the wrong site

Ok, so this morning I get my subscribe issue of "AeroInternational", with the nice title "The Top-Photos 2004". So naturally, I go forward to the article, and then what do I have to see: "Best of Airliners.net". What follows are 15 of the best pics from a.net this year, though I'm confident that one of them is from an earlier year. Positively at least three shots are from photographers which are members on our site, too, namely Dan V, Wietse Graf and Matthew Wilmott-Sharp. Back on the article, besides the fact that it contains two Delta shots , it also has a collage of the dictator from Sweden. The written part sounds like Johan paid Aero some bucks for it. Sure, many things are true, though there are also lies in it, and I quote, "... and the motive has to be extraordinary/one of a kind". Makes we wonder why pictures from ATL, DFW or FRA in most cases look the same. Anway, I feel Aero should also male a tribute to the sleeping giant jp.net, so if I should try to get them to make an article about jp (just frrom the perspective of a casual, non-biased reader of course , let me know.

Why not, get them under pressure ...
About pics looking the same, in some cases its pretty difficult to be creative. Let's take FRA for instance. If not a member of the "Ramp Mafia", your options
    - action shots / finals, best location remains near parrallel runways 09/27 (I guess) by driving along the ring road linking the terminals to (slide convention) hotel and further to the USAF part and new cargo ramp.
    - action shots / take-off : one location, along runway 18/34
    - taxi shots, the observation decks or nuts ...
Except for some action shots locations, ATL is far from offering a large variety of options.
I don't know DFW as a photographer, but I guess options to be scarce.
In fact, a wide majority of US airports offer few options for taxi shots.

That's why I'm glad I work @ ATL, I can get some great shots (That is if I ever remember to take my camera; I've been saying for awhile that I was going to take my camera to work with me one Saturday to take some shot, but I always forget to grab my camera. Or if I do remember to put my camera in my car, I forget to take it with me in my work truck.)
