so how is it? i've been to NY and i'm headed back in a few weeks, but i'm also thinking of going for new years 2005/2006 too, has anyone spent NYE in the big apple? i know its cold, but whats the days leading up to it like and the activities? is it worth me flying 30hrs for it?

Did it a few years ago. My suggestion: Save your money and time. It's 5000x better watching it on TV at a party or at home.

Coming from a native New Yorker and current resident. Don't waste your money!!! New Years eve in Times Square Sucks!! They corral you into these sections and basically lock you in; you can't even leave to go to the bathroom. Oh and if its really cold just forget about it then. If you really want to do the Times Square thing I'd suggest getting a room at the Marriott Marquis with a view of the ball and have a hotel rom party with some friends. You get to stay warm and move about without restriction.
