That avatar got on my nerves!

    Like smilies on crack

It's his choice to leave, or stay. I needed to leave and have my pictures removed for certain reasons but came back for the all "love" you can only get here.

At least on the bright side, he only has two pictures to re-upload when he is ready to come back. I still have a few hundred yet to upload.

Joe, if you give up now, then, well, the terrorists have already won...

Inferring from the tone of your question, I have one thing to say... "Take your fighting gloves off, Amy!" I wonder whether you're looking for a fight... well, you're not getting one from me.

The phrase "the terrorists have already won" is a popular phrase around these parts. It originally came from Comedy Central's The Daily Show. It is pretty meaningless and is very cliched. For example, I might say "I've decided not to go to the gym anymore" to which a reply may be "Well, in that case, the terrorists have already won!" Obviously, no terrorists would either be involved in my decision not to go to the gym nor would they profit from me not going to the gym. It's just a humorous, throw-away line.

In this case, it largely refers to (what I think is) largely an over-reaction by Joe. In this case, he would say "I've decided to leave the forum" to which I nonsensically reply "Well, in that case, the terrorists have already won!" Obviously, no terrorists were involved in Joe's decision, and nor would any terrorist profit from it.

The cliche is based on the premise that if someone stops doing anything or changes what they do, then let's all blame it on terrorism, whether or not there is any link at all.

It's a joke. I wrote it highly sarcastically. Get over it.

The epitome of irony: you accuse me of looking for a fight, and respond to a very benign question from me like THIS?

I was genuinely curious as to what you meant...and was confused as to your meaning. So I asked.

Another large irony: this thread was written about the improvement of the maturity level on this board and I have seen *repeatedly* examples of immaturity, nasty tones, incorrect inferrences (like yours), and subsequently jumping down peoples throats for these incorrect infferences (like you just did).

Before you respond to me in such a sarcastic, accusatory way, perhaps you could use a bit more diplomacy (yes, another lesson in maturity when posting) when inquiring as to what my tone was in a particular note that might be unclear to you. This is a perfect example of what I'm seeing around here: everyone jumping to the wrong conclusion and then "going off" on someone prematurely.

You can be rest assured that I have no desire to fight with any of you when the very thing I've been trying to DO is prevent all the bickering and fighting that's been going on.

            Regards,
            Amy

Alright, Amy, fair cop. If you're question was just a simple clarification of what the phrase meant, then you I unreservedly apologize to you and I apologize for the over-reaction.

In no way justifying my behaviour, just let me say that I did read your question in the context of not only this, but many recent threads on the OTF which have been very accusatory and 'short' in their nature. When you say "And which terrorists might those be, Airigami?" it came across to me like my mother asking me "and what's that supposed to mean?", i.e., a loaded question. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but if someone said that to my face, I would think that it was a snide, loaded question. But, obviously, in your case it was not intended as such.

              So, again, apologies.

And on that matter, in the spirit of the *intent* of this thread, maybe there is a recipe I could recommend for everyone's cullinary enjoyment:

                HUMBLE PIE
                2 cups Humility
                1 tbsp Understanding
                3 tbsp Acceptance of Incorrectness

I think that if all of us on this forum ate a little of said humble pie every now and again, I think a lot of disputes could be settled pretty quickly...
