The how did he tie him up so the police could shoot him?
He engaged in a gun battle with the criminal. The criminal's attention was diverted from trying to enter the courthouse to shooting the civilian that was trying to kill him. While he was doing that, police killed him.

Or, if concealed weapons were made illegal for civilians, it would be as follows-

              1. Crazy gunman with AK-47 opens fire outside courthouse
              2. Crazy gunman with AK-47 kills people outside courthouse
              3. Crazy gunman with AK-47 kills cops and enters courthouse
              4. Crazy gunman with AK-47 kills people inside courthouse

Think of all of the drive-by shootings that happen in major US cities every day. You really think those thugs have a background check before they get their pistols? No, they get them off of the street, and they will continue to get them off of the street no matter what laws are passed.

Where do you think the guys off the street get them? Hardly by robbing an ammunition store. If public ammunition stores were shut down, then the illegal gun supplier will have no place to get his guns from, and thus guns on the street will become waaay fewer.

And the situation would go down in one of two ways:

                Way 1:
                1. Crazy gunman with AK-47 opens fire outside courthouse
                2. Crazy gunman with AK-47 kills people outside courthouse
                3. Police Officers with standard issue revolvers kill crazy gunman outside courthouse.

                Way 2:
                1. Crazy man has no place to get a gun from.
                2. No shooting takes place.
"The Director also sets the record straight on what would happen if oxygen masks were to drop from the ceiling: The passengers freak out with abandon, instead of continuing to chat amiably, as though lunch were being served, like they do on those in-flight safety videos."

I would tend to agree with this. This would also reduce gun violence in Canada since most of our illegal guns were brought across the border from the US.

So you are advocating getting rid of all guns in the US other than those used by police and the military? Good luck with that...

Why punish the honest, law-abiding citizens who go through all of the background checks to get their guns? Also, making guns illegal would not solve the problem at all. Just look at all of the drug sales going on in this country that the police are having a hard time controlling. If anything, it would just create another business for people across the border to smuggle weapons in along with drugs. And that would result in more money for the bad guys.
