  • European TV ?

Why does it seem that alot of TV that is filmed and produced in Europe has alot more "noise" in the film and is softer photography wise?

Probably the difference between systems used? PAL versus NTSC. I have noticed it though, and not just with stuff filmed in Europe. For instance, when watching a live news conference it can be interesting to switch between CNN and BBC, cause the view if slighly different. CNN tends to be a tad darker then European stations. (don't have other US stations to compare)

Number of "channels" varies and rendering of colors still differs at times
        - Once (justifiably) known as Never The Same Colors, NTSC had 515 lines or so
        - SECAM skyrocketed to 825 or so
        - in between PAL featured an hundred or so extra lines from NTSC to which it was an improved derivative.
Off course, the largest number of lines the neatier the image.
Today, most European channels use dual PAL-SECAM.
