The U.N. approved a treaty making it a crime for terrorists to possess or threaten to use nuclear weapons or radioactive material. How the hell is that suppose to do anything? Was it legal before to use radioactive material in a terrorist attack? Seriously. kcmh is dead on. The U.N. is a bloated bureaucracy that doesn't accomplish much of anything.

Very good Clovis. One of my favourite facts is that USA and their partners in crime, Israel, are the only two countries in favour of having embargos against Cuba.

But then again, who needs the rest of the world. They're all idiots anyways and we don't gotta take crap from nobody.

What possible motive could we have for vetoing these other than just being absolute *********. Someone enlighten me.

I think the fact that a hand full of countries can single handedly prevent something from going forward is the main problem with the UN. It really defeats the point of voting if a few nations can go 'wait, no, I dont like that one'. That would be like if out of every voter in the US there were say 15,000 that once everybody had finished voting could go "nope sorry, dont like him". On all these issues that we voted to veto...it should really tell you something when you're losing out on the popular vote by numbers like 135-1.

Hey hey hey!!! Please do NOT bring Isreal into this. The only reason why it is so loyal to the US is cause it is surrounded by Arab states that wish they could blow it up and that the US help get Isreal to become a country.

I don't understand why they vetoed condemnation of apartheid on numerous occasions. Perhaps they would like to see that happen in their own place?

Kevin, the guy you were referring to was Kofi Annan, United Nation's 7th Secretary-General
