However, how an athelete goes out affects his legacy as much, if not more, than what he accomplished... it's always the last thing he's remembered for.
See: Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson, Tanya Harding, etc.
Jordan retired because he was getting old and out-schooled by young studs like Kobe & Garnet. He should have retired with the Bulls.
Bo Jackson had a hip injury that never let him return to his old form, but you can't blame him for trying.
Tona Harding was never that good to begin with so she had to hire some goons to whack her competition. The last thing I'll remember her for is "Celebrity Boxing."
That's the way with everything, not just sports. Everyone wants to exit at a high point, and that's the point by which most people would remember him/her.
ummmm yeah, and he'll still have a legacy whether he loses or not. 6 in a row is quite an accomplishment!
Course it is, no one is arguing against that.

Cycling is a "defend your title" sport. Especially when it's the Tour de France. But don't give me that "Legacy" crap. He'll still have an amazing legacy. Him losing a race doesn't change that.
Saw him last week when he was doing the "Tour de Georgia" (lol.. yeah, I know). The race course went right past my school. Ha, we got like an hour off jsut to see him pass, and when he raced by, he was is a huge pack of other racers and only a few people recognized him.
I tried to get out there and take pics of him in last years tour de france...but we couldnt get close enough because they had closed all the roads too early.
Be funny as hell if he loses... something to be said for quitting while you're ahead.
Well when he wins his seventh straight tour in a few months he will be quitting while he's ahead. But I don't agree with that. He shouldn't retire from cycling until he loses a tour de france. Whether that is the upcoming tour, or a tour five years from now. If anyone knows anything about cycling, it's a sport that you need to defend your title. Lance can't just give away the yellow jersey. Someone needs to take it from him. But cycling is the one sport where it's not necessarily the best idea to retire on top.

I'm thinking about catching the finish of the Dodge Tour De Georgia so I can try to see him in action. Actually, the second stage (which is tomorrow) starts about 15 minutes from me, but the finish will be one big party!
Only a shame that Hamilton is banned for 2 years...... for using blood doping.
Now let's see who will be the succesor of Lance Armstrong! Hopefully a Dutchie
