Nice, our high school is getting a Glacier bear. They are very rare. It costed us $3000.

That really is fantastic!! Your extremely lucky to go to a school that values expanding your thinking by displaying something that provokes thought as that exhibit does.

Don't ever let anyone tell you High School or education in general "sucks". You can truly appreciate the world more with an education.

oh, i love education, and i do as much as i can to keep my high school from interfering with that, since it kills it wherever it can find it. thats why i take corses at MIT on the weekends. frankly, my highschool sucks, and its not doing as much as it can to expand our minds, its just doing it b/c the NHA(nantucket historical asociation) gave that to them. anyway, its still cool

Don't get me wrong Tom, I love learning, and I'm planning on furthering my education next fall in college, but high school...the kids, the teachers...its mostly a shithole. I met some of the most uncreative, unimaginative and down right stupid people I have ever come in contact with in highschool. Its a giant social boiling pot where you get put down for doing anything different.

I had maybe 1-2 good teachers in my four years of highschool...that actually helped me think outside the box and re-examine myself. The rest blandly presented material, sometimes under the guise of "furthering creativity" which only turned out to be furthering the sterotypical creativity embraced by people with no culture.

I found I learned ALOT more travelling and living abroad than two years of U.S. high school ever brought me.

That is a shame, but at least you recognize the shortcomings and have a plan to overcome them. I found teaching in the military similar. I bent over backwards to build and present my curriculum to appeal to the students that had a true desire to learn and expand their knowledge of the aircraft and it's systems. Many of them just showed up because they had to, it was a treat to see the "light bulbs" turn on in the ones eager to learn and a privilege to be a part of it.

Keep at it, grab all the knowledge you can.

I actually learn more studying on my own and reading books than I have in most classes. Everyone learns at a different pace, which is why I think our education system should be more individualized.

For a few years, mostly technical stuff, avionics, electronics, and electrical, automatic flight controls, power generation and distribution, environmental systems, lighting, engine control, fluid power systems, some weapons and guidance. I was an MTS, but I doubt you know what that is, not that it matters. Most of this done while you were learning the finer points of peddling your tricycle around the driveway.

It was a good time, and it has paid off handsomely.

I think my school might replace some broken water fountains...

But huge whales or Bears are out. Maybe some Blue Crabs before they become extinct. :P
