That was just from looking at the prices on various schools web pages. Most schools want (approx):
7 to 8k for the private
14 to 16k for the commercial (must already have the private license)
4 to 6k for the instrument. (must already ahve the private license)

MultiEngine and Night ratings are quite cheap it seems (by comparison) 2 or 3k each.

Those all include ground school and supplies.

Edit; I did a quick search on google for Buffalo/Niagara based schools, and from the two I looked at so far, theres already a good $800 saved over local schools after the USD/CAD exchange. (For PPL)

I win, from day 1 till now i've spent at least $47,000 USD on flight training! At the peak of my training i was spending $2,200 USD a week flying, it's not nice, but will be worth it all in the end i'm sure.

I lost so much money so quickly when i did my Multi I.F.R rating in the Partenavia, $263 USD/per hour she cost. You really felt your money slip away after flying 15 minutes in a straight line towards a N.D.B, with just your instructor and 4 empty seats behind ya, thats for sure

One of my old buddies from AirTran quit there to go to flight school and he told me the cost was going to be in neighborhood of $30,000; and that was about five years back. I looked into it a few years back, but I honestly could not afford to get myself that deep in debt.
