  • VE Day 60th Anniversary

I'm surprised no one posted this yet.

I watched a bit of the ceremonies today, and also two days ago in Holland when Canadian soldiers officially liberated the Netherlands.

This 60th anniversary is extra special because this is most likely the last time where there are massive ceremonies held for overseas veterans. Since they are all 80+ years old, future ceremonies would be increasingly local.

Cool Kev, what/where did he serve?

edit: I would like to add that I have the deepest respect who fought in this crusade against true evil.
This was the last war that is clear-cut justified.

Also, wow, did anyone see the Russian parade held in Moscow. All those soldiers marching in old-style tankers and Soviet attire and flags send a shiver down my spine...
I wonder if Putin was trying to send messages

He should be very proud indeed, having served in a Genuine war for a genuine cause.

Interesting side note- My great-grandfather served in the US Army and was killed in the Ardennes during the battle of Hurtgen forest. My brother-in-law's grandfather also served, however, he was German so he fought in the German army during the Battle of the Bulge. Would be very interesting to see if they ever squared off against each other. However, we will likely never know as my great-grandfather's records were destroyed in a warehouse fire a few years ago.

Mut have been a truly remarkable time, and I hope there is not a time like it any time soon.

The Lancaster of the BBMF made a fly by at various places through out the country, including my living place. To honour 3 crewmembers of a crashed Lancaster that are burried at our local graveyard. I will never forget the sight of a Lancaster overhead our little town, and the sound
