  • For those of you that are interested in Japan

My parents introduced me to a website from a photographer they had recently bought a stock photo from. The website is called www.sushicam.com and has a bunch of interesting stuff on it such as a blog from the photographer discussing different experiences he's had in Japan, loads of really great photos, and a very interesting forum (though not very active). Just thought I'd give everybody the heads up. I've been more or less addicted to this site since I first went to it a few days ago.

    Lovely pics.

I have never been to Japan -- will go there some day as I've always wanted to!

agreed, lived there for 3 years when I was very very little, and now I've been back at least twice a year since 2001 and to be honest there's nowhere in the world I would rather be.

Crowded cities? Unfamiliar language? Conjested roads? Whale fishing? Not my idea of paradise.

I love Japanese people, I'd love to VISIT Japan some day, but I can never see my self living there.

Great site, Joe! Can't wait to go there myself... as I'll be flying JAL (omg, I know...) on either the return or the outbound flight to SYD in 2007, I'll have a stopover in Tokyo... this visit happens earlier than I planned, which is simply GREAT!
The language itself isn't too hard to learn- they say you can learn the structure of the language in a month's time if you make an effort (trying your best, trying not to speak english too much, etc.). The hard thing is learning all of the words I'm currently taking Japanese lessons... and I can't wait to get out and use it for real!

Most of Japan is rural. My town has a population of 9999 not including me.

Learn it. It takes a little bit of effort.

People in cities don't use cars. In the country, the roads are narrow, but not that conjested.

Just remember that they are BYO.

And also, if you go during the day you can book a room for about 3500 yen from 10AM - 6PM. There aren't many better ways to spend a day.

What do you guys recommend? Learn the language and culture? Thanks for your pointers!

Joe I'll fight you for the title of "I love japan more"
                            I'll play.

Lets see, around my apartment what do I have on my walls:

1 Mt. Fuji Calendar (with some great pictures might I add)

1 Japanese flag (from WWII era) that was attatched to my climbing stick from when I climbed Mt. Fuji

1 3d map of tokyo...well, not 3d, but it has all the interesting buildings drawn on it

1 Scroll with the Japanese character for "dream"

1 aviation sectional chart from the Kanto Plains area

                            1 JAL 744 poster

various post cards going into the bedroom

                            Now in the bedroom:

1 Scroll with various landmarks found around Tokyo on it

1 scroll with the Japanese character for "fortune" hung over my bed (hasn't worked yet )

1 picture of Mt. Fuji that came off the calendar for Jan/Feb

1 computer generated map of Tokyo with different areas on there as well such as Harjuki, Roppongi, Shibuya, etc

                            1 map of Kyoto

                            Emu wins?
