  • I'm Published Again

Southwest Employee Communications used the color version of this photo in their monthly Employee news magazine "Luv Lines" for this month. They cropped it a little closer than I have it here, but I was surprised to see my name as the photo credit! The men in the picture are part of the Tuskegee Airmen.

Cool shot...I'd brighten it up and add some more contrast though.

I know, this isn't the hi-quality fully-edited version. I need to re-do it in duotone!

I still need to find a good way to convert color JPEGs to B&W

Do you have Photoshop? I have a book called "Photoshop Artistry" with a great section on B&W conversion. It is how I learned the process.

I have CS but I never use it, I always use Elements.

              Easy Instructions:

              Step 1. Image > Adjustments >Desaturate
              Step 2. Image > Mode > Grayscale
              Step 3. Image > Mode > Duotone
Step 4. In the duotone box, adjust the curves for Black the way you like it. Then double-click on "ink 2" and do the same for the color you pick.

You can even do a tritone or quadtone if you choose.

When you save it you'll have to choose "Save for Web" if you want a JPEG, otherwise it will be a .PSD file.

                Congrats PT737SWA,

Clovis and PT737SWA there's an even easier way than that. In Elements go to Enhance> Adjust Colour> Remove Colour... and that's it

That does what it says, removes color. It doesn't give you good blacks, and good whites.

Exactly! Thank you. The instructions I listed will give you the whole tonal range. And it only takes an extra minute or 2.

                      Tell me which is better:

                      1. Desaturated:

                      2. Duotoned:

I dunno...thats an ugly shot to begin with!

j/k Yes...desaturate is a poor way to get black and white.
