People don't have much respect for trains, in some of the places here were trains sit over night they often have grafiti with dirty words and gang writings in gang colors all over it...

Japan Rail has a way of discouraging suicides on their lines. They bill the remaining family the cost of cleanup and disruption to the line. On some busier lines that could bankrupt most families. Generally people don't want to leave such a legacy.

        CHAV ALERT CHAV ALERT.

Unfortunate how you mention these drunkards and unfortunate boneheads getting killed by the live wire, when clearly most Chavs actually deserve it.

but is it effective.. does it minimize the suicides in japan ?? i think its a really good idea, making the suicider to rethink before he jumps...

I bet that it does, the Japanese are very big on not dishonoring their family. Sounds like a good policy to have.

Toronto Transit Commission has a therapy program in place for that. Some of those guys don't go back to work for quite some time. I read some time ago that Toronto averages 3 suicides a month like that.

I wouldn't think that is has much effect on overall suicide rates, but it does keep suicides on the main Tokyo lines to a minimum.

What pisses me off even more is that when something like this happens the parents of the dumbass kids involved blame the rail company. As for graffiti goes, I don't really mind the colourful stuff that people obviously put work into, but the swear words and gang stuff gets to me. I've read that some of them don't paint over the numbers, because then the train has to be pulled out of service.
