  • Bush Fort Bragg Speech

Anyone watch it tonight? I thought that the speech was needed, particularly due to the intense criticism that Bush has been under recently. I was surprised that the soldiers were ordered to keep quiet (normally there would be numerous "HOOAH"s), but I guess the brass wanted to keep it quiet.

    Excerpts from the speech-

As far as I'm concerned Iraq is turning into another Vietnam. Shoulda never gone there in the first place. They had no invlovement with 9/11 and no WMD. War based on lies.

Theres bigger threats than Iraq, Bush won't acknowlege this because his pride will go down the shitter. If Bush thinks Iraq is the terrorist strong-hold then he's delusional. Also the "war against the terrorists" will never be won, the "terrorists" are too wide spread.

"We are fighting against men with blind hatred and armed with lethal weapons who are capable of any atrocity." this works both ways, america's no spring chicken.

And neither is New Zealand, or any country, for that matter. Americans aren't the ones sending suicide car bombs into crowds full of little children begging for candy. Nor are we sending suicide bombers into hospitals full of wounded and sick civilians.

I don't see how it isn't. Iraq has terrorists filtering in from Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, the Palestinian Territories, etc. Can you name any other country that sees about 60 (last time I checked) terrorist attacks each day?

Thankfully, the terrorists are too stupid to realize that if they want to get US troops out of Iraq, or want the US to suffer in general, they need to hit us at home. However, it is better for us to fight the war in the Middle East than to fight it in the Midwest.

It seems like that signature of his is getting to his head.

              "Just quit?"

Isn't that what the Nazis did? Or his beloved Luftwafte (sp?)?

Yeah, you didn't do it. You caused them to do it. Subtle but important difference.
"The Director also sets the record straight on what would happen if oxygen masks were to drop from the ceiling: The passengers freak out with abandon, instead of continuing to chat amiably, as though lunch were being served, like they do on those in-flight safety videos."

Was there ever a suicide bombing in Iraq before the war? No. According to you Herpa we should REALLY be in Palastine of all places.

How did we cause them to do it? If you would have said, "You caused them to kill 1,700+ American Soldiers," I could have agreed with you. We are there, and if they want to fight us, they can. However, I don't see how us being there would make them blow up a hospital. The reality is that the attacks would still be going on had we not invaded Iraq, only they would be going on in Berlin, Riyadh, Los Angeles, etc...

No, there was no suicide bombings before the war, because anyone who potentialy posed a threat, or who knew someone who posed a threat, or who knew someone who knew someone who posed a threat was tortured and killed.

I'm all for sending US troops to Palestine in a peace keeping role.

theres no easy solution, but the solution is not Iraq that's for sure, and infact it's made things worse, american brutality and disrespect displayed in iraq has breed more generation's of terrorists than probably ever before.

Even Clinton's former advisor (Dick Morris) said we are better off fighting the terrorist in Iraq instead of fighting them on our land. Let them all go to the mother land and die by blowing themselves up instead of trying to get into the U.S. and killing us.

Messerschmitt Man, it's easy to blame everyone but how come you don't come up with any ideas to fix the problem. You just bash everything that has been done with our policy.

"american brutality and disrespect" the left wing media loves to show over and over the few examples of this. The NY Times had GITMO on their front page 50 times.....

Why don't they go into Iraq and show how we've turn around the lives of civilians. A local station was talking to a few marines at Camp Bucu(sp). He said the prisoners eat better than the civilians there. They get 3 meals, the koran which can't be touch by anyone who isn't muslim and an air conditioned room. While the temps reach 130F the civilians are looking for fresh water and a decent meal.

Yeah, the US is so brutal and disrespectful

don't you just love sweeping generalizations?

Your saying we were brutal for freeing the country of a murderous dictator? For eliminating a government full of corruption? Yeah, freedom is brutal.

Generations of terrorists? You watch to much CNN.... Turn your cartoons back on....

If you can't stick to the debate at hand, then don't debate at all. Do not resort to personal insults. Thank you.

Past and present CIA analysts have repeatedly said that the WAR in Iraq has severly diminished our resources in fighting terrorists in Afghanistan, Pakistan and other hot spot countries...where is Bin Laden? THE man responsible for killing 3,000+ innocent U.S. on 9/11/01 if you already don't remember. Iraq and the little "terrorists" who are heading into the country from Syria and Iran had nothing to do with 9/11.

The real perpetrators are still at large...and they likely will be for quite some time since we aren't persuing them with the whole of our intelligence and military resources...
