July 1st 1867 was the day that the colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Upper (Ontario) and Lower (Quebec) Canada joined to be the Dominion of Canada.
The other provinces joined (or were created) in;
1870 - Manitoba
1871 - British Columbia
1873 - Prince Edward Island
1905 - Alberta and Saskatchewan created out of Ruperts Land (Northwest Territories)
1949 - Newfoundland
The territories were created in
1870 - Northwest Territories (Alberta, Saskatchewan and Nunavut all have been carved out of the Northwest Territories)
1898 - Yukon
1999 - Nunavut
July 1st was called Dominion Day until 1982 when it was changed to Canada Day.

It was one of those perfect weekends. Canada Day on Friday and Independence Day on Monday.

As I was driving home today, I heard on the traffic news that delays at the border crossings are up to 2 HOURS back to US. Seems like everyone's rushing home all at once, it's going to be a looong way home for them....
