Thanks! Wonder if anyone (except DFDS Seaways) offers plane tickets to New York as well as a cruise for decent money someday, then, trust me, I'll be there

I hate cruises. The rest of my family loves it, but I've never been a fan of it. Probably the main thing I don't like is the fact that I get motion sick easily & choppy seas don't help me out.

I've been on three cruises so far:

-1996, Big Red Boat's "Oceanic". Route was Port Canaveral-Nassau-Freeport-Port Canaveral. This was a pretty short trip & we ended up on it as a result of a friend of my mom's who then worked for the Winston Cup Racing Wives Auxiliary & was heading up a NASCAR Charity cruise. She hooked us up with a suite, which was awesome. This trip was pretty fun- got some autographs, met NASCAR drivers (which was even cooler back then) & had a good time overall.

-1997, Norwegian Cruise Lines' "Leeward". Routing Miami-Key West-Cozumel-Miami. This was also a Racing Wives cruise & with a little help from the friend I mentioned above, we ended up with one of the "Owner's Suites". The Leeward was a nice, modern ship, but one thing we learned later in the cruise was that the ship was an ex-Italian ferry which was supposedly flat-bottomed. We got rocked on the third day of the cruise by viciously rough seas (on a day that was otherwise great, weatherwise) & before we made it to Cozumel, the majority of the passengers were sea sick...including me.

-1999-2000, Premier Cruise Lines' "Oceanbreeze". Routing was Ft. Lauderdale-Ocho Rios, Jamaica-Panama Canal-San Blas Islands-Costa Rica-Key West-FLL. Of the three cruises, this was probably the coolest. The ship wasn't one of the glitzy, glamourous ships that Carnival & Royal Caribbean have, but it was originally built in England in the early 1950s & after several different handoffs, ended up with Premier in the 1990s. Despite the age, it was in really good shape & was a nice ship for the two weeks we'd be on it. We were originally supposed to be on the "Seabreeze" (which ended up sinking off the Virginia Coast in 2000), but ended up on the Oceanbreeze. The best part about the trip was in the Panama Canal, where we were a part of history. We were there on New Year's Eve 1999...the day the Canal was turned back over to Panama. The weather was crappy, but we were able to see the changeover. Spent New Year's Day there & left the next day for the San Blas Islands. Got to do Snuba in Key West, which was cool. Other than that, I was bored most of the trip. There wasn't a whole lot to do on that cruise & it didn't help that we had a few days of rough seas.

Here's the history of the Oceanbreeze: http://www.maritimematters.com/oceanbreeze1.html According to the link, the ship was supposed to be scrapped...

I haven't been on a cruise yet, but I can't wait until i do. I hear nothing but positive things about them from most people.

I would like to take some, but I will favor
            -off-peak spring/fall and
            -smaller liners.
-diversity and higher number of ports of call
I have seen once a nice TV docu featuring the Yearly Spies'Cruise with departs from Fort Lauderdale and is organized with a pretty small/medium size old style liner.

Just to show where my mind has been lately, the first thing I saw when I saw the title was Cruiser bikes. Although they aren't my style in bikes, there are a number of Cruiser bike fans around the Twin Cities.

I have been on two, a Caribbean cruise from SJU and an Alaskan cruise from YVR.

Had fun on both, but the Alaskan one was the most spectacular.
