Hopefully the transport will stop here in TX like it usually does. Somewhere close would be nice.

Speaking of the shuttle's 747 transport, do they still use the ex-AA 741 that was used in the early days (when all shuttle missions landed at Edwards), or has it been replaced? (I always wondered if the original AA 741 was the same one I rode on SJU-JFK in December of 1973--my first widebody flight!)

If it does, are you able to get pictures?

Depends on when and where it stops. Usually it stops at EFD near Houston or RAF near San Antonio. Unless it comes near Dallas I probably won't get to see it.

BTW, why does it (747-shuttle combo) have to stop over in Texas instead of making a direct flight to Kennedy?

Maybe with that beast on its back the 747 doesn't have the range, especially since the 747 they use is an earlier model. That's just my guess.

Glad that they got back on the ground safely but it sucks for NASA that they had to bring them in in CA and not the Cape.
